Internship working part time up to 29 hours per week.
Davis County Sheriff's Office is hiring for a Emergency Management Intern. Under the direction and guidance of the Davis County Emergency Services Manager, performs professional duties in the development of emergency preparation and response capabilities for Davis County in accordance with internship work plan as agreed upon by the intern's school, if applicable.
Requirements
Must possess a valid Utah driver's license. Interns driving a personal vehicle while on county business must maintain the minimum vehicle liability insurance as specified in the Utah Code.
Must operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner and in compliance with all Utah laws and regulations.
Must comply with Davis County Policies, and Davis County Sheriff's Department Standards and Procedures.
Maintain professionalism at all times as a representative of Davis County.
Depending upon job assignment, may be required to pass a criminal history background investigation and drug test.
Day to Day Duties
- Work directly with emergency management staff as an intern. This will provide the intern with the opportunity to increase their understanding of emergency management in a real-world setting.
- Accepts responsibility for assigned projects and tasks, and achieves defined objectives. Interacts with the public in a polite and caring manner;
responds to needs and requests with all customers when working with the community at large.
Works constructively toward a common goal with other team members. Arrives at work on time and remains at work for the duration of scheduled work hours.
Assist in the development of emergency plans, training programs and other efforts in an all hazards approaches to emergency preparation and management.
- Consult and partner with officials of governmental agencies and organizations such as Davis County Government, city governments, law enforcement agencies, fire agencies, schools, hospitals, and other institutions in order to determine their needs and capabilities in the event of a natural disaster or other emergency.
- Assists in planning functions for emergency response for Davis County.
- Fulfills and reports appropriate / accurate internship hours.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills : Computer (Excel, Word, desktop publishing, web-based applications), organization, and written communication.
- Ability to : efficiently use a computer and all applicable software; exercise sound independent judgment; identify problems and recommend solutions;
- communicate effectively (orally and in writing); follow written and oral instructions; follow through on assigned tasks;
establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the general public.
