What We Offer
This is an on-call position, which means it is a part-time, hourly role. This position will work between 0 hours per week and no more than 39 hours per week.
This position typically works 15-25 hours per week. Specific hours for this position typically occur, Monday through Friday from 3 : 30-8 : 00pm.
The pay range for this position $19.25 and is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denver’s 457b retirement plan.
This position is not eligible for other additional benefits. On call positions may have routine or variable work schedules
Location
In this position you can expect to work on site at different recreation centers in Denver.
What You’ll Do
Are you passionate about martial arts and want to use your skills to enrich the lives of Denver’s youth community? The MY Denver program, part of the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), is seeking a Martial Arts Teacher to join a team dedicated to providing youth with opportunities for enrichment though skill-building activities, inclusive programming, and a myriad of learning and social opportunities.
MY Denver martial arts programming, free to youth ages 5-18 who possess a MY Denver Card, is focused not only on providing the skills for self-defense, but also developing humility, self-confidence, self-discipline, focus, and respect.
This is a rewarding opportunity to use your creativity to develop engaging and meaningful programming for Denver’s youth.
We are open to those with experience in all types of martial arts.
As a Youth Martial Arts Teacher, you will :
- Use creativity to design and teach martial arts techniques and principals to youth ages 8 18 years old
- Develop age-appropriate lesson plans and class activities
- Provide a safe and supportive environment for participants
- Monitor and assess participants’ process and provide constructive feedback
- Ensure the physical and emotional well-being of all participants during class
- Communicate with parents and guardians about participants’ progress and performance
- Maintain a clean and organized training area
- Travel between recreation centers with needed equipment to implement programming in a timely manner
- Attend meetings, as needed
About You
What You’ll Bring
- Experience participating in martial arts recreationally or competitively in a classroom setting
- Experience with martial arts instruction
- Ability to teach skills to youth at a variety of ability levels, preparing them for in-house tournaments and camps
- Experience working with youth ages 8 18
- A relevant martial arts certification (preferred, but not required)
- CPR / First Aid certification

- Education requirement : Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
- Experience Requirement : One (1) year of experience in assisting in the operation and instruction of organized recreation activities
- Education / Experience Equivalency : Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
- License / Certifications : Requires certification in CPR and First Aid within 6 months of date of hire
- Requires a valid driver’s license at the time of application. (Employees may be eligible to drive department / city vehicles for transportation and subject to motor vehicle record check and required to pass a city sponsored driver safety training course.)
- Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of continued employment
