Hyperbaric Technician Per Diem Days Position Summary

Acts as Lead Tech. Provides hyperbaric therapy to patients as ordered by physicians. Monitors and ensures the proper delivery of treatment gas as ordered.

Performs duties under supervision of the Program Director, Clinical Coordinator and / or Clinical Manager. Responsible for safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems.

Monitors the patient continually during treatment for symptoms of oxygen intolerance, claustrophobia, hypoglycemic reactions, decompression sickness or any other adverse reactions to HBO therapy.

Responsible for day-to-day maintenance on the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems. Acts as point person for assessment of materials that are appropriate for use in and around hyperbaric chambers.

SPECIAL SKILLS : Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively and effectively with patients, visitors and physicians.

HYPERBARIC TECHNICIAN PER DIEM DAYS CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING EDUCATION, LICENSE / CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE.

MINIMUM EDUCATION : High school diploma or equivalent (GED)

PREFERRED EDUCATION : Associates Degree.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE : 2 years of Hyperbaric Medicine

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSURE : Requires basic EMT, respiratory therapy, nursing assistant training, or prior military experience in hyperbaric medicine.

Certification from an approved hyperbaric course.

LI-BL1

Operating and maintaining the hyperbaric chamber and associated systems as prescribed by a physician. Monitoring patients in the chamber, including recording condition and ensuring comfort during treatment.

Maintaining applicable operating, maintenance, and safety logs. Maintaining accurate patient records

Education :

• Required : High school diploma or equivalent. Must be certified and / or licensed in one of the following vocations or hold a diploma from an accredited institution in one of the following professions to meet the minimum education and experience requirements : Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT), Certified Hyperbaric Specialist (CHS), Certified Hyperbaric and Wound Care Specialist (CHWS), Documented Hyperbaric Medicine Training, Respiratory Therapist;
• Physician’s Assistant; EMT or Paramedic; Military Corpsman; Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse; Nurse Practitioner;

Physician or Physiologist; Certified Nurse Aide, Certified Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician

Experience :

Preferred : 1 year experience as a hyperbaric technician. Wound care, hyperbaric medicine, and / or experience in emergency medicine or acute care hospital strongly preferred.

Certifications :

Required : AHA BLS. Must complete Introductory Hyperbaric Training Course as approved by the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology within 90 days of hire.

Preferred : Certified Hyperbaric Technologist from the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology
