Discover Your Career at Emory University :

Emory University is a leading research university that fosters excellence and attracts world-class talent to innovate today and prepare leaders for the future.

We welcome candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community.

Description :

The goal of our Emory CPCRN local research will increase the understanding of lung cancer screening (LCS) interventions and evaluate a bundle of implementation strategies to promote LCS among primary healthcare centers in rural, southwest (SW) Georgia.

Every year, 234,589 new cases of lung cancer are diagnosed in the United States. The survival rate for lung cancer is higher with early diagnosis, with 68-92% of people surviving for more than 5 years.

Lung cancer screening can detect lung cancer and the most common method is low-dose computed tomography (LDCT); however, national studies have found low uptake with only 3-5% of smokers or former smokers being screened.

In the State of Lung Cancer 2034 report, in Georgia, 3.8% of those at high risk were screened (ranking 32 of 50 states), which was significantly lower than the national rate of 4.

5. Implementation research is critical to improve our understanding of how we can accelerate the adoption and implementation of lung cancer screening (LCS) interventions.

The Emory CPCRN has aims related to collaboration with other CPCRN centers to advance the mission of the CPCRN and the research aims involve conducting a scoping review of lung cancer screening tools to measure eligibility for lung cancer screening and a systematic review of interventions to promote lung cancer screening in the United States to inform intervention development, conducting a pilot trial and implementing a lung cancer screening trial in primary care clinics in southwest Georgia.
