The Salvation Army is seeking Shelter Monitors to provide care and assistance to shelter residents in King County. This role helps individuals in immediate need and coordinates and responds to crisis and inquiry calls by providing support, information, and referrals to individuals seeking assistance with food, shelter, and resources.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Handle crisis and inquiry calls, offering support, information, and social service referrals.
- Ensure a safe environment for residents by providing assistance and enforcing facility rules.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify and address hazards, inappropriate behavior, or needed repairs.
- Respond to emergencies, taking independent action within policy guidelines.
- Provide crisis intervention and security procedures, including notifying authorities when necessary.
- Manage client intake and departure processes as per department policy.
- Orient, support, and supervise clients.
- Assist in training new staff and volunteers.
- Collaborate with Salvation Army colleagues and represent programs to community agencies respectfully.
Education & Experience
- HS Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 6 months experience in public contact / customer service
- Experience in social service shelter / residential preferred
- WA Driver’s License preferred

Life and Voluntary Options. An employer-paid life insurance policy covers employees. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.
Retirement Plans : Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time.
Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.
Parental Leave : The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.
Sick Leave : 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months’ service time.
Paid Vacation :
- Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.
- Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.
- Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months’ service time.
Paid Holidays : 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
