$7,243 per month
This position will prefer the location in the Bismarck / Mandan area.This position is eligible to work 5-days a week in the office, or a hybrid work schedule requiring a minimum of three days a week in the office, or a remote work schedule (working from home 5-days a week) within the state of ND.
Summary of Work
As the MPO / Urban Coordinator, you will be a dynamic leader who thrives in a collaborative setting and can quickly adapt to the rapidly evolving urban growth environment.
In this role, you will coordinate metropolitan and local transportation planning programs, manage urban federal aid projects, and integrate local, regional, and state transportation goals while ensuring compliance with federal funding requirements.
You will be responsible for aligning regional transportation projects with broader state and federal transportation policies and objectives.
You will travel to monthly Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) meetings in Grand Forks, Fargo, Bismarck, and Minot, participating as a technical resource and voting member.
Occasionally, you will also attend MPO Policy Board Meetings in these cities. Your role will include monitoring the status of work programs, coordinating vital document requirements such as the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP), and Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP), and participating in various MPO studies.
Additionally, you will oversee MPO consultant and in-house planning studies, establish policies and procedures for managing MPO planning programs, and provide technical direction or assistance related to MPO transportation planning requirements.
Beyond MPO coordination, you will oversee transportation planning studies in non-MPO urban cities, establish policies and procedures, provide updates and information to other divisions and management, and offer technical direction or assistance.
Your role will involve complex oversight and management of non-MPO city transportation planning, identifying and resolving related issues, and scheduling and coordinating activities.
Part of the role of the MPO / Urban Coordinator is to be a project manager for Federal Aid Highway Projects. In this area, you will handle all project activities between the department and consultants for urban regional / urban roads and Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) projects.
This will include monitoring compliance with milestone dates, ensuring timely submission of necessary documents, conducting technical project reviews, and coordinating with local public agencies and divisions / districts.
You will also review environmental documents and plans, attend relevant meetings to provide technical assistance, prepare cost estimates, determine funding splits, create proposals in PACER, and manage complex project agreements with multiple entities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in transportation engineering, urban / transportation planning, or related field.
- Four years of experience in transportation engineering or urban / transportation planning-related activities.
- Requires a class D driver’s license for travel to meetings and project locations.
