At HoustonMethodist the Patient Observation Tech position is responsible fordemonstrating basic knowledge and skills necessary to communicateappropriately and provide continuous electronic observation andsurveillance of assigned agespecific diverse patient populationassisting in the delivery of patient care and services.

Thisposition verbally redirects the patient from engaging in atriskbehaviors and summoning nursing staff when patient requiresassistance and reports observations and patient problems to thelicensed nurse.

SERVICEESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

  • Functions asa liaison between patients families and staff to troubleshoot andresolve telesitter issues using cultural diversity and inclusionprinciples.
  • Respondsquickly logically and patiently to questions or requests frompatients and hospital staff. Organizes daily work flowproblemsolves basic and routine matters and prioritizessimultaneous situations seeking guidance and assistance frompreceptor licensed nurse or management whenneeded.
  • Maintains visualobservation of assigned patients at all times and verballyredirects patients over digital 2way audiodevice.
  • Delivers AvaSysMobile Carts to patient rooms sets up the unit and assists withtesting of the units position camera and audiospeaker.
  • Contributestowards improving department scores for patient satisfaction onunitbased scorecard through peertopeer accountability i.

Communicateswith interdisciplinary team and responds quickly to patientbehavioral changes Reports observations conditions and problems ofpatients to licensed personnel to achieve desired patient outcomes.

  • Provides appropriatehandoff at change of shift at patient bedside to communicate andcollaborate promoting patientcenteredcare.
  • Seeks help and / oradvice as soon as possible when patient appears to pose a threat tothemselves or others. Participates in a collaborativeidentification and reporting of patient safetyissues.
  • Contributestowards improving quality and safety scores on the unitbasedscorecard through peertopeeraccountability.

Usesresources efficiently; does not waste supplies. Selfmotivated toindependently manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasksminimizing incidental overtime.

Utilizes time between heavyworkloads efficiently and helps other teammembers.

EDUCATION

HighSchool diploma or equivalent education (examples include : GEDverification of homeschool equivalency partial or full completionof postsecondary educationetc.)

WORKEXPERIENCE

Six monthsof direct patient care experience or enrolled in a school ofnursing program with a completed first clinicalrotation

LICENSESAND CERTIFICATIONSREQUIRED

BLS Basic LifeSupport (AHA)
