POSITION SUMMARY :
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a specialist in the field of biological sciences, with a focus on supporting malaria vaccine development efforts.
The ideal candidate will possess a Master’s degree in Biological Sciences or a related discipline, with at least two years of experience in biology or a related field.
This role involves maintaining accurate laboratory records, performing a variety of immunological procedures including cell and tissue culture, serological assays, and supporting malaria vaccine assessment efforts.
The successful candidate will calibrate and operate sophisticated laboratory instruments, write detailed reports on findings, interpret experimental results, and contribute to the planning of subsequent studies.
Additionally, this position requires mentoring and training students and laboratory personnel, performing quality control, and preparing data for publication using computer software.
This role is crucial for advancing our understanding of malaria vaccines and developing effective interventions.
TASKS. The contractor shall :
Maintain accurate, daily records of experiments and results in laboratory notebooks.
Support malaria vaccine product assessment through mosquito-parasite membrane feeding assays, mosquito rearing and dissections, and ex-vivo parasite culturing.
Perform immunological procedures and techniques, including cell / tissue culture, serological assays (ELISA), and column chromatography.
Calibrate and operate laboratory instruments such as ELISA readers and spectrophotometers.
Write reports detailing methods, procedures, modifications, specimens, materials, and experiment results.
Interpret, evaluate, and discuss experimental results with project officers to plan further studies.
Prepare various media, stock supplies, and reagents for laboratory use.
Provide mentoring and training on the use of laboratory equipment and specialized procedures.
Perform quality control, upkeep, and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment, including managing supplies and handling biological materials.
REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have :
Master’s degree in Biological Sciences, or a related discipline or equivalent.
Minimum of two (2) years of related experience, preferably in malaria research.
Proficiency in using MS Office Suite and skilled in operating ELISA readers, spectrophotometers, microscopes, and balances.
Mosquito experience strongly preferred.
Experience with cell / tissue culture, serological assays (ELISA), and column chromatography.
Ability to maintain accurate laboratory records and perform detailed data analysis for publication.
Excellent communication skills for mentoring and training students and laboratory personnel.
Knowledge and experience in handling biological materials, infectious agents, and biological wastes safely.
