At Rocketship Public Schools, we are unleashing potential.The Reading Specialist works extensively with small groups of Rocketeers to help them improve targeted reading skills.

Students who are identified for work with the Reading Specialist will be those who are in the bottom percentile of students according to the beginning of year diagnostics.

Conduct six-eight week intervention cycles with targeted students by analyzing academic performance, designing instructional action plans, and monitoring progress.

The Reading Specialist collaborates with the classroom teachers to design methods of learning that are most appropriate for each Rocketeer.

This role will report to the school leader responsible for Intervention and MTSS.

Essential Functions

• Instruct small groups of students in researched-based reading intervention programming
• Implement detailed, data-driven lessons and activities aligned with grade-level academic standards, as well as effectively and appropriately integrate technology into lessons.
• Teach / Co-Teach Humanities classes as necessary
• Serve as a member of the school’s MTSS team and regularly review student data with teachers and leaders to provide recommendations for student movement.
• Analyze student data to design instructional action plans
• Monitor progress of instruction action plans with assessments, daily instructional notes, and weekly summary reports
• Implement various assessments which measure student progress toward academic standards, and utilize assessment data to track student performance and mastery.
• Engage in cycles of data-driven instruction to inform planning and personalize instruction to student needs.
• Collaborate with the MTSS team, special education staff, and grade-level teams to design or adapt meaningfully differentiated lessons.

Student and Parent Partnership

• Partner with all students and families through frequent communication, building trusting relationships and embracing the knowledge parents have as their child's first teacher.
• Build authentic relationships with families beginning with home visits that form the foundation for frequent ongoing communications to support student success.
• Engage with families on academic goals and transparently share student progress so that both parents and teachers own each child's successes and challenges.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Education or similar field required.
• Six or more years of experience in literacy instruction (preferably in an urban setting).
• Demonstrated ability to work with students and families from diverse backgrounds.
• Possess a history of delivering effective, research-based math or ELA instruction to students in an urban school setting, both virtually and in person.
