The School of Arts and Sciences seeks a full-time, 12-month faculty member in the role of Chemistry Lab Manager and Faculty Associate in Chemistry to prepare chemicals and equipment, manage student workers, and deliver high quality learning experiences in undergraduate Chemistry lab courses.

The faculty member will work collaboratively with colleagues across the University as well as with the Dean of Arts & Sciences.

The selected candidate will have responsibilities teaching one undergraduate Chemistry lab course per semester in addition to other administrative tasks.

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Responsibilities :

Ensures all lab users comply with all relevant aspects of health & safety Orders chemicals, supplies, and equipment for scheduled chemistry labs for approximately 1,000 students Prepares and sets up reagents and materials for scheduled Basic Chemistry, Chemical Principles, Organic Chemistry and upper-level chemistry labs Ensures proper storage of chemicals for safety compliance according to government regulations Monitors waste collection for chemistry labs;

ensures proper labeling of waste; relocates waste from labs to temporary storage Interfaces effectively, develops recommendations, and collaborates with the University Director of Environmental Health and Safety to improve lab operations (re : SDS sheets, safety training for student workers and new faculty, and other regulations, etc.

Communicates with Facilities to insure prompt attention to needed repairs or maintenance (e.g., plumbing, doors, etc.) Works with the Laboratory Instrumentation Specialist to ensure equipment maintained and repaired Manages assignment of course drawers;

supervise drawer equipment stocking to support scheduled labs each semester Orients, coordinates, trains, and supervises undergraduate and graduate lab assistants Works effectively with Administrators, Faculty, Adjunct Faculty, Graduate Lab Instructors, and Chemistry Lab Assistants to ensure smooth and efficient organization and operation of chemistry labs Maintains inventory of laboratory supplies and chemicals Submits purchasing orders, communicates with Dean on budget status each semester, and requests capital purchasing orders as needed Supports incorporation of diversity, equity and inclusion into the curriculum, as well as co-curricular experiences, to broaden the education of students and expand their knowledge of health disparities Hires, trains, and supervises student Chemistry Lab Assistants Attends Open Houses and participates in marketing activities as needed, understanding that the labs are a recruiting tool for the University Teaches one lab course per semester of 16 students or fewer Assumes other duties as requested by the Dean

Required : M.S. degree in Chemistry or related discipline Experience with duties of chemistry lab manager (including purchasing, inventory, waste disposal and staff supervision experience);

3 years experience preferred Experience teaching undergraduate laboratory sections in-person; 3 years preferred Exceptional organizational and communication skills Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory safety regulations and procedures Ability to adjust quickly to changes in workflow and adapt to the needs of different labs and lab coordinators Ability to work independently as well as operate collegially as a team player with a wide range of parties including students, faculty, and administration / staff Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.

Physical Requirements : Work requires using and preparing chemicals typical in an undergraduate chemistry lab Work requires sitting, standing and walking as part of classroom instruction.

Must be able to use technology, such as typing and manipulating a mouse / mouse pad Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
