Description

The Treatment, Research, and Expert Education (TREE) program at the Emory Global Health Institute (EGHI) is seeking candidates for an Associate Director position.

TREE is dedicated to addressing health inequity globally through academic medical care, research, and training. The Associate Director will provide overall coordination for TREE activities at Emory University and liaise with administrators and investigators implementing research and training activities in Atlanta, Georgia and Nairobi, Kenya.

The Associate Director will support multiple programs including INfectious Diseases Summer Program Integrating Research at Emory (INSPIRE), Enhanced BReast and cErvical cAncer screening in Kenya THROUGH implementation science research and training (BREAKTHROUGH), and HIV / cervical cancer cOntrol and Prevention clinical sitE in Kenya (HOPE-Kenya).

JOB DETAILS : Overall

Overall

Direct TREE research, training, and programmatic activities at Emory and EGHI.

Grants Management

  • Oversee and manage fiscal administration of grants and subcontracts to partner organizations.
  • Submit expense reports, track program budgets, and project program spending.
  • Prepare submission of new proposals and grants that support and promote TREE’s mission and activities.

Scheduling and Coordination

Schedule meetings for TREE Director as well as steering committee, co-investigator, advisory board, and donor meetings;

take meeting notes; and maintain repository of notes.

  • Coordinate domestic and international travel for TREE Director as well as program PIs, co-investigators, and trainees as needed.
  • Host TREE visitors at EGHI and Emory and schedule meetings and prepare notes as needed.
  • Serve as a point of contact for partner sites and work closely with TREE Director and Multiple Principal Investigators (MPIs) to ensure seamless integration of Emory, EGHI, and TREE’s research and training activities.

Reporting and Compliance

  • Prepare, present, and maintain repository of periodic progress reports including quarterly and annual reports for NIH.
  • Develop and review standard operating procedures (SOPs) and other documents for administration and management of TREE programs.
  • Prepare and submit ethics applications, including amendments and annual renewals, to the Emory Institutional Review Board (IRB), and ensure continuity of ethics applications at all site IRBs.
  • Work with MPIs, co-investigators, and program staff to ensure compliance with project protocols and national and inTernational regulations.

Communications

  • Provide regular communication to keep teams informed of TREE program progress, milestones, and achievements through newsletter, website, and social media.
  • Maintain Slack, Zoom, and Dropbox accounts to promote exchange and communications between members and partner institutions.
  • Oversee TREE website and social media accounts, and update content on a regular basis.
  • Supervise TREE staff, interns, trainees, and / or volunteers.

Quality Control

  • Work with TREE Director, MPIs, and staff to ensure quality management of all site activities.
  • Conduct surveys of co-investigators, trainees, and international partners to gather feedback on TREE’s offerings and processes and use these to guide future improvements.

Other

  • Troubleshoot and resolve unexpected situations related to project implementation.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Directs the strategic planning, development, and implementation of program.
  • Collaborates with representatives from private, government, and international agencies.
  • Represents the program in various national and international fora.
  • Conducts research, designs new initiatives, writes publishable articles and papers, collaborates with others, and designs programs.
  • May supervise staff.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor's degree in field related to specific program as indicated and five years program related experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
  • Master's degree preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Grants management experience in an academic setting.
  • Five years related program management experience, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and administrating grants using Excel and other financial management programs in an academic setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects simultaneously with competing priorities ensuring timely completion and optimal implementation / execution.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding organizational and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Highly collaborative team player with ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with senior management, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Expert knowledge of MS Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Proven experience working in a multi-cultural environment.

NOTE : Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion.
