Safety Attendant (HW / FW)

Oregon, OH Job Summary :

The Safety Attendant (Hole Watch / Fire Watch / Bottle Watch) will be working outside of confined spaces and will be responsible for monitoring and protecting the workers entering the confined space, and alerting rescue if necessary.

The Attendant will also be responsible for monitoring workers performing hot work, and responsible for protecting the workers and preventing fires, and if necessary extinguishing small fires.

In addition, the Attendant will responsible for protecting personnel working under fresh air, while monitoring the air quantity and air pressure being delivered to the workers.

Duties & Essential Job Functions :

• Knowledge of hazards that may be faced during entry, including information on signs, symptoms and consequences of the exposure while monitoring activities inside and outside the space.
• Monitor atmospheric conditions using a gas analyzer in the space prior to and during entry.
• Accurately keeps a count of authorized entrants ensuring that the entrants are the correct.
• Performs non-entry rescues and summons rescue and other emergency services as soon as the attendant determines that authorized entrants may need assistance to escape.
• Performs no duties that might interfere with the attendant's primary duty to monitor and protect the authorized entrants.
• Having fire extinguishing equipment readily available and have been trained is its use.
• Shall be familiar with facilities as well as procedure for sounding an alarm in the event of a fire (specific to each site).
• Shall watch for fires in all exposed areas and try to extinguish fire only when obviously within the capacity of the equipment available.

Qualifications : Required :

Required :

• High School Diploma or GED.
• TWIC, ARSC Basic Safety.
• Must be able to work up to 7 days a week; and / or 8-12 hours a day.
• Shift flexibility; days or nights.
• Over the age of 18.
• Must be able to pass a Drug & Alcohol Test / Background screening.
• Must be able to follow client written and verbal requirements.

Physical Requirements :

In addition to the above, the position MAY require that employee be able to :

• Ascend to heights up to 50 feet or greater using stairs or a ladder.
• Work in a confined space.
• Ability to discern colors.
• Meet body weight restrictions per client job specifications.
• Lift / move up to 25 pounds to chest level; lift / move up to 10 pounds above head.
• Ability to walk over one mile in full PPE equipment to / from the client job site.
• Ability to wear the required PPE for extended hours in various types of environmental conditions.
• Stand for a minimum of 2 hours.
• Kneel, crouch or crawl in internal and external environment.
• Excellent vision and hearing.
