Upswell Movement Teacher

Position Summary
- Upswell Movement Teachers are knowledgeable, yoga-based or pilates-based teachers who enjoy guiding intimately sized classes of 10-15 people from a wide variety of backgrounds and fitness levels;
- easily make genuine personal connections with people from diverse backgrounds and a wide variety of fitness levels; enjoy cultivating and creating a wellness community;
authentically speak to the benefits of restorative movement, active recovery, and community offerings; and enjoy supporting people in achieving a sustainably vibrant lifestyle.
Core Competencies
- Engaging personality, comfortable establishing swift personal connections;
- Passionate about physical and mental fitness, wellness and active recovery;
- Knowledgeable with functional anatomy;
- Skilled at delivering class themes that are consistent with the Upswell mission;
- Skilled at cultivating a sense of community in the class;
- Ability to coach small to midsize group classes through verbal cues, visual cues, and intentional touch-point cues and light adjustments.
Experience & Eligibility
- 200-hr yoga teacher training, or certified pilates training
- A minimum of 50 classes taught to the general public
- Advanced education in yoga teaching, movement coaching or academic education is a plus
- CPR / First Aid certification
- Successful audition and schedule availability
- Must be legally authorized to work in the US
- Must have the ability to travel to assigned studios and event locations with reliable transportation methods
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Teach a high-caliber yoga-based class consistent with Upswell's format-specific teaching guidelines;
- Create an inclusive, welcoming experience for all students by learning and using student names, and connecting with students throughout class;
- Deliver an on-brand sensory environment with particular attention to mat position, prop set up, temperature and lighting, and music selection and volume;
- Commit to a consistent schedule of at least one regularly scheduled class per week, and one sub-in class per month;
- Commit to subbing in as many classes as you’ve subbed out within a 60-day period.
Physical Requirements & Environment
- Requires a wide range of constant physical activities, including but not limited to : sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, twisting, pushing, pulling, and reaching;
- Frequent repetitive movements;
- Requires close, distance, peripheral vision and depth perception;
- Continuous exposure to moderate noise;
- Frequent walking and standing on hard surfaces;
- Frequent movement, lifting or carrying of weight up to 50 pounds.
