Established as a community non-profit in 1972, The Center provides targeted programs and services to the full diversity of the San Diego LGBTQ community.
The mission of The Center is to enhance and sustain the health and well-being of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, transgender, nonbinary, immigrant, and HIV communities for the betterment of our entire San Diego region.

The Center is sex-positive and provides advocacy and critical health and social support services to support our community members through all stages of life, focusing on our deeply held values of equity, social justice, and client-centered, trauma-informed care.
The Center currently has over 75 staff working at five facilities across San Diego County.
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision and support of the Senior Services Program Manager, this position will be responsible for coordinating all Senior Services events and outreach efforts.
In collaboration with the Senior Services Program Manager, this position will develop the annual calendar for Senior Services;
and then, be directly responsible for the planning, supervision, and implementation of a broad array of activities and events for LGBTQ and HIV+ seniors.
This individual must work creatively and collaboratively with other departments / programs within The Center; as well as be collaborative, client-centered, and skilled in accurate documentation and reporting.
In addition, this position will be responsible for outreach for Senior Services specifically with the intent to increase the diversity of Senior Services, including senior women and senior people of color.
This includes pursuing and actively engaging in outreach and tabling in the community on behalf of The Center at senior-related events, as well as serving as an ambassador of The Center in assisting potential new senior clients / community members in accessing Senior Services events and services.
PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Event Coordination :
- Assist the Senior Services Program Manager in the planning of Senior Services events, collaborating closely with the Senior Services team to create community spaces for the many intersections of the senior LGBTQ+ Community, as well as opportunities to access culturally affirming resources.
- Coordinate and implement all Senior Services events, including, but not limited to, Monthly Senior Food Bank and Monthly Lunch and Learns, as well as larger annual events like the Ageless Artist Art Show and Senior Services LGBTQ+ Health Symposium and Resource Fair.
- Responsible for events from start to finish, including room reservations, working with Communications to create flyers and advertise events to the community, reaching out to partner organizations with invitations, ordering food, volunteer coordination, set-up / take-down, crafting an event schedule, running the event smoothly, hosting at the event (if needed), and entering the client data post-event, etc.
- Participate in staffing The Center's monthly food distribution (twice annually), San Diego Pride parade seating, Pride Festival tabling, and other weekend / after-hours events as needed.
- Build and maintain active working relationships with Center program staff, community partners, senior serving agencies, and other LGBT-affirming providers to enhance outreach efforts.
- Data entry into Apricot for all clients who attend Senior Services events at The Center.
Outreach :
- Serve as an ambassador of The Center and Senior Services by actively engaging in outreach and tabling and having a visible presence at events hosted by external partners as well as events hosted at The Center.
- In collaboration with the Senior Services Program Manager, create an annual targeted outreach plan for Senior Services, aiming to increase the diversity of the program, including senior women and senior people of color.
- Outreach to healthcare systems, social service organizations, or other senior-serving organizations, creating accessible pathways for new clients and community members to access Senior Services events, discussion groups, and other Center services.
Required Qualifications :
- Education and / or Experience : Minimum of 1-year experience in event planning / coordination. Minimum of 1 year (professional and / or lived) experience serving highly vulnerable and special populations, especially those at high risk of HIV and other STIs, mental health vulnerabilities, and / or housing insecurity.
- Technology Based Skills : Must be comfortable working in PC / Windows-based environments.
- Language Skills : Fluency in English required.
- Other Skills : Competence and familiarity in working with a variety of populations, including the LGBTQ+ community. Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Must have a valid driver's license and reliable form of transportation.
preferred QUALIFICATIONS :
- Education and / or Experience : Minimum of 3 years of experience in event planning / coordination in a professional, philanthropic environment.
- Language Skills : Fluency in Spanish.
- Other Skills : Lived experience as a member of a historically under-served community (i.e., communities of color, LGBTQ communities, or immigrant communities, etc.
is highly preferred.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS :
- Compensation : The pay range for this position is $22.50-24.50 hourly and is commensurate with experience. This is a Full-Time Regular Non-Exempt
