A Day in the Life of the Director of Human Resources

The Director of HR will be responsible for achieving short- and long-term strategic and business goals. This position is about fostering and growing a culture based on customer service, creativity, empowerment, and accountability.

He or she will direct and oversee all activities relating to organizational design, staff and resource allocation, recruitment, selection, training and development, performance management, and compensation of all executive, exempt, and non-exempt employees.

As the leader of the HR department, this position has the following responsibilities :

  • Participate in the formulation of the organization’s strategic, business and financial planning.
  • Focus on organizational development issues including cultural alignment, performance management, talent planning and management, leadership development, and employee engagement and communications.
  • Play a leading role in ensuring common values and vision as well as practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Assess compensation programs and evolve structure to lead culture toward accountability and productivity.
  • Establish training programs to develop employee values and skills needed to achieve organizational strategic objectives.

Qualifications of the Director of Human Resources

  • Demonstrated knowledge and leadership of all human resources functional areas.
  • Integrity, honesty, intensity, and passion necessary to complement and collaborate with the rest of the executive management team.
  • Successful experience in influencing change in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated success in developing talent management models from recruitment through development.
  • Track record of efficient and effective management of all financial and operational aspects of human resources programs.
  • A bachelor’s degree is required and a graduate degree is preferred.
