The Controls Engineer is responsible for independently applying engineering principles and best practices to projects, including new system design and retrofits.

Create designs with technical accuracy and troubleshoot problems. They may work independently and / or with a team of engineers to carry a project to completion.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Develop control hardware design using AutoCAD Electric .
  • Perform basic programming functions including debugging.
  • Develop software design using Supplier software (such as Rockwell , Siemens TIA ).
  • Work with Senior Engineer / Account Manager to support team members, customer(s), and project goals.
  • Download and commission software on the customer’s site. Work with the customer to achieve acceptance.
  • Continuous learning and development of a practical understanding regarding components, systems, and applicable software for industrial control systems.
  • Proactively communicate with Project Lead / manager regarding the scope, schedule, and budget of assigned tasks / activities, learning needs, and project-specific information.
  • Adhere to all applicable NEC, NFPA 79, UL, OSHA, and any other safety standards related to project subject matter (of the customer and of ATS).
  • Adhere to both client and department-established procedures and workflows.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable Engineering program and 5 or more years’ experience in Industrial Control systems OR a minimum of 7 years of related experience in Industrial Control Systems with an associate degree in applicable Engineering program OR a minimum of 9 years of related experience in Industrial Control systems .
  • Capable of working independently, as part of a project team, or leading a team of Engineers to complete more complex projects.
  • Adherence to and leading others in regard to both client and department-established procedures and workflows.
  • Development of subject matter expertise in multiple control system platforms, per management direction.
  • Perform as a technical lead for assigned projects.
  • Manages quality of deliverables on assigned projects.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS :

  • Knowledge of the general workflow of an engineering project.
  • Shows a passion for continuous learning not only in their position but also in the broader technology space.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Responds in a timely manner and with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Strong customer relations skills. Shows a keen interest in clients and their business.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with a diverse group of people and roles across the business. Demonstrates a willingness to collaborate with others through listening, showing respect, and asking questions.
  • Sound decision making and problem-solving abilities; takes initiative to solve problems.
  • Ability to manage self by meeting deadlines, seeking work, being dependable and punctual.
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to work in manufacturing environment with occasional to frequent exposure to noise, fumes, dust, and temperature extremes.
  • Major manufacturer industrial control system exposure preferred.
  • Control system design experience preferred.
  • Must be able to travel up to 35% throughout the year as well as occasional night or weekend hours. (ATS tries (but cannot commit) to manage / limit trips over 2 weeks in duration)
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  • Possesses consultative skills and uses subject matter expertise to become a trusted advisor to customers. Comfortable and confident in challenging customer’s ideas and making sound recommendations.
  • Has developed subject matter expertise in multiple of the widely used control system platforms. Works as a team and shares this knowledge with other engineers / seeks opportunities to share expertise and experience with others.
