Job Summary

This job posting is to fill an opening starting early fall 2024 for a research associate to assist with studies in neuroactive drug discovery in the zebrafish model organism.

Duties to be performed will be maintaining wild type, transgenic and mutant zebrafish lines by breeding, screening and validating presence of transgenes or genetic mutations.

  • The chosen technician will conduct experimental research including : assist in the execution of a large scale high-throughput behavioral drug screen, perform drug treatments from libraries into multi-well plates using a multi-channel pipette, and interacting with an automated behavioral recording rig;
  • perform quality control checks on data collected; perform molecular assays such as DNA / RNA purification, PCR, cloning, and CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing;

execute immunohistochemistry studies to label proteins and cells in the central nervous system; confocal microscopy; and any other relevant experimental procedures.

Department Description

The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry is one of three departments in the UCSF School of Pharmacy and is under the administrative oversight of the Department Chair, Michelle Arkin.

Through research and teaching, the Department seeks to understand the biological principles of small molecules, proteins, and cellular design, and to apply these principles for the therapeutic benefit of patients.

Required Qualifications

BA / BS in a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position;

and / or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge / experience working in a research lab setting.
