We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Operations & Development Geologist in our US Onshore Resources & Carbon Management (ORCM), Rockies Powder River Basin Development team based in Denver, Colorado.
The team is focused on making PRB a core Oxy asset by co-developing multiple formations on 180,000 acres in the South Powder River Bain, Wyoming.
The primary objective of this role is ownership of the technical preparation and well placement for horizontal wells in PRB.
Additional responsibilities supporting development, planning and multi-disciplinary optimizations across operated PRB acreage.
The role will work closely with our subsurface and drilling teams both in planning, execution, and post-drill phases of development.
Primary Responsibilities :
- Must be an exceptional teammate, willing and able to collaborate, contribute, and learn new skills.
- Geo-steer horizontal wells in a 24 / 7 operation and work with contractors to oversee interpretations, communications, and decisions.
- Interpret 3D seismic and incorporate findings with other reservoir drivers and requirements from development, subsurface characterization, and drilling teams to ensure successful execution of horizontal wells.
- Efficiently produce subsurface interpretations, incorporate all available data for effective planning, targeting, and well placement.
- Effectively communicate and build strong working relationships with geologists / geophysicists in asset team, drilling personnel, MWD and directional crews, land teams, etc.
- Provide timely and accurate post-well documentation and geologic data management.
- Create accurate geo-prognosis for permit well plans.
- Develop and improve geoscience workflows for better technical results and efficient data transfer between teams and disciplines.
- QC and interpret mud log, LWD, and directional survey data from the field.
- Assist in the standardization and oversight of geo-steering operations, mudlogging, wireline logging, and general wellsite geology.
- Collaborate with other assets to share knowledge and provide horizontal operations support.

- Geologic development planning within a designated area of interest.
- Ensure areas are properly planned while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver executable inventory.
- Produce development scenarios to best meet the needs of surface land, mineral land, reservoir characterization, regulatory, and execution timing.
