Personal Care Assistant Overview

Join Melmark New England as a Personal Care Assistant (PCA). In this role, you will provide direct care and assistance to individuals with a wide range of physical, developmental, and intellectual disabilities.

You will be responsible for helping individuals with their daily living activities, personal hygiene, health monitoring, and implementing their Individualized Care Plans.

This position requires compassion, attention to detail, and the ability to handle physically demanding tasks while fostering a safe and supportive environment.

Personal Care Assistant Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred (training provided upon hire)
• Valid US driver's license and a minimum age of twenty-one (21) years old
• Must meet Massachusetts Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) background check requirements
• Experience working with individuals with autism, developmental disabilities, or similar populations preferred
• Ability to lift and support individuals, and assist with physical tasks as needed

Personal Care Assistant Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate care and assistance to individuals with physical and developmental disabilities
• Experience and comfort wiht feeding tubes preferred
• Assist with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, and toileting
• Help individuals maintain proper hygiene and report any health concerns in a timely manner
• Observe and document changes in the health and well-being of individuals, and report findings to nursing staff and supervisors
• Evacuate individuals safely during fire and emergency drills, adhering to safety procedures
• Promote a safe environment through the use of proper body positioning, physical management techniques, and adherence to Universal precautions
• Use and maintain adaptive equipment, ensuring it is in working condition and filing incident reports if needed
• Remain calm and composed during behavioral incidents, ensuring a positive and supportive interaction with individuals
