Bizaan Behavioral Health, a clinician-founded private practice group, is expanding its team to include dedicated Peer Support Specialists targeting law enforcement, first responders, and military personnel.
Our mission is to provide crucial mental health support tailored to the unique needs of those who serve our communities and country.
This is a part-time, as-needed position within a division of the company that is growing!
The Peer Support Specialist will play a pivotal role in providing peer-to-peer support, guidance, and encouragement to law enforcement officers, first responders, and military personnel.
They will utilize their lived experience and training to help individuals navigate the stresses, traumas, and challenges inherent in their roles.
Responsibilities :
- Provide confidential and non-judgmental peer support to individuals within the law enforcement, first responder, and military communities.
- Foster a supportive environment where individuals feel safe to discuss their experiences, emotions, and concerns.
- Facilitate peer support groups and one-on-one sessions to address specific needs and challenges.
- Collaborate with other members of the clinical team to develop and implement personalized support plans for clients.
- Assist clients in accessing additional resources and services as needed, including mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment, and community support programs.
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of client interactions and progress in accordance with HIPAA regulations and company policies.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance peer support skills and knowledge.
Requirements :
- Lived experience as a law enforcement officer, first responder (required). Lived experience as military personnel is a bonus (but not required).
- CISM-certified.
- Willing to respond on-scene to provide critical incident support.
- Certification as a Peer Support Specialist or willingness to obtain certification within the first six months of employment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients.
- Empathy, compassion, and a genuine desire to support others in their mental health journey.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Previous experience in peer support or mental health advocacy.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles.
- Familiarity with community resources and support services for law enforcement, first responders, and military personnel.
