Established Chemical and Materials Engineering professional. Conducts chemical and materials engineering activities in support of objectives and goals.

Develops new materials and chemical manufacturing processes, monitors material performance, and designs layout of equipment and arrangement of operations.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Collaborates with plant and engineering staff to identify possible chemical or materials engineering tool-related problems.
  • Designs and plans layout of equipment to optimize the chemical and materials engineering processes.
  • Performs laboratory studies of steps in the manufacturing of new products and tests proposed processes in small scale operations such as a pilot plant to ensure feasibility and viability.
  • Determines appropriate methods for fabricating and joining materials to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design.
  • Monitors material performance and evaluates material deterioration to ensure required specifications are met.
  • Designs, develops and tests metallic and non-metallic structures or materials and their related fabrication processes for use in engineering designs.
  • Researches and develops new and improved chemical manufacturing processes.
  • Determines arrangement of operations such as mixing, crushing, heat transfer, distillation, oxidation, hydrogenation, and polymerization to optimize efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and / or application in structures, systems and subsystems.
  • Performs material analyses that include, but are not limited to, failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications.
  • Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes.
  • May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.
  • Audits manufacturability of existing products, and recommends modifications or adaptations to address quality, customer, product, or productivity constraints.
  • Conducts tests and measurements throughout stages of production to determine control over applicable variables; and services, troubleshoots and solves production process problems with processes or equipment already in operation.
  • Conducts analysis of manufacturing processes and equipment to diagnose failures.
  • Analyze customer returns for root cause and leads corrective action efforts in cooperation with Product Engineering.
  • Develops and updates PFMEAs.
  • Develops routings and labor standards and updates the ERP System.
  • Writes and / or modifies manufacturing work instructions and acceptance test procedures.

Basic Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of relevant experience OR
  • In absence of a degree, 7 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Experience in Chemistry
  • Must have strong analytical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Proficient in O365 applications
  • Experience working with ERP systems SAP, Oracle E1, other
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical data
  • Experience working with Laboratory Information Management Systems
  • Experience working with Manufacturing Execution Systems
  • Lean Manufacturing experience
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of time
