Job Summary

The Program Manager - Nuclear Pharmacy Technician (NPT) supports the Authorized Nuclear Pharmacist (ANP) in providing radiopharmaceuticals (RPs) to the Nuclear Medicine Department.

Under the supervision of an ANP, the NPT prepares and dispenses RPs while ensuring regulatory compliance. The NPT helps manage the production schedule and orders externally manufactured RPs in a timely manner.

The NPT is responsible for shipping and receiving of radioactive materials, inventory control, record keeping, instrument calibrations, and regulatory compliance.

Schedule : Monday-Friday with approximate starts times between 4 : 30-5 : 00am. Start times are subject to change based on department needs.

Job Details

• Performs elution of 99m Tc generators and prepares radiopharmaceuticals with aseptic technique. This includes compounding kits, printing labels, drawing doses, performing QC analysis, and electronically documenting all activities.
• Maintains an accurate production schedule and assists with timely and accurate ordering of RPs from external pharmacies and manufacturers.
• Ensures regulatory compliance by following established procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Documents regulatory requirements including receipt and storage of radioactive materials (RAM), temperature logs, scheduled cleaning and lab maintenance activities, and training in an accurate and timely manner.
• Prioritizes add-on doses during the day.
• Follows all applicable aseptic manipulation and radiation dose minimization techniques.
• Communicates with other caregivers and patients in an effective and positive manner. Demonstrates emotional control and intelligence in managing work relationships.
• Participates in training / coaching of students, residents, and fellows.
• Attends and actively participates in team huddles and meetings.
• Independently performs all necessary tasks to open the lab including performing constancies, checking in and staging radioactive packages, performing temperature checks, etc).
• Maintains accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies.
• Appropriately uses information systems, technology, and automation to complete assigned tasks.
• Performs assigned cleaning tasks in laboratory.

Education :

• High school diploma or GED.
• Completion of an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists accredited pharmacy technician training program is preferred.

Certifications :

• Upon hire, registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy is required.
• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is preferred at time of hire and is required within 18 months of hire.
• Maintains licenses, continuing education (CEUs), and certifications.

Complexity of Work :

• Requires critical thinking skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be organized and detail-oriented.
• Must be able to prioritize and take appropriate action in a stressful, time-critical environment.
• Ability to perform basic algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of compounds.
• Proficient in basic computer skills.
• Problem solving in day-to-day activities.

Work Experience :

• Two years previous work experience in nuclear pharmacy is preferred.
• Previous experience in hospital setting is preferred.

Physical Requirements :

• Typical physical demands include ability to perform working in stationary position for long periods of time.
• Occasionally lifts 80 lbs.
• Manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer-entry, dispensing, and compounding.
• Ability to perform repetitive motions such as drawing doses.

Personal Protective Equipment :

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
