Summary :
A non-exempt medical office position responsible for coordinating and managing all functions of surgeries and coordinating post-surgery care.
Essential Job Responsibilities :
- Assist with triage of the surgical candidates when needed.
- Work with hospitals to obtain information as required for surgery scheduling.
- Educate patients about planned surgery.
- Obtain insurance authorizations as required by individual plans.
- Obtain all necessary paperwork and ensure it is completed in a timely manner.
- Work in concert with surgeons to obtain medical clearances and preoperative testing as required by hospital protocol.
- Elicit assistance from manager and surgeons when issues of assessment and / or decision points present that are outside scope of practice
- Assist in other functions of the physician practice as needed
Education : High school diploma / GED required with completion of Medical Assisting Program strongly preferred.
Certification : Prefer certification in at least one of the following : Medical Assisting or other related healthcare management / administration certification.
Experience : Must have a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience working in a physician office; at least some previous surgery scheduling experience strongly preferred.

The Scheduling Coordinator functions in all aspects of the Scheduling department and in addition provide oversight for the Scheduling Department in the absence of the supervisor.
The Scheduling Coordinator is responsible for all activities assigned during their shift, including quality and accuracy of work produced, reports at the end of the shift, and the status of the department.
Complies with all department-specific policies and procedures. Identifies and reports problems to the Scheduling Supervisor or Manager.
Education :
Required : Associate degree in related field or equivalent experience
Preferred : BS in related field
Experience :
Required : 1 year scheduling experience. At least 1 year previous experience in charge / supervisory or management position.
