Purpose :
Weld America, a division of Colonna's Shipyard, is seeking a QA-NDT Inspector to work project-based assignments in various locations around Charleston, SC.
Various shifts are offered, part-time / fulltime options, as well as per diem for those who qualify. The QA-NDT Inspector is responsible for conducting, documenting, and maintaining records associated with inspection per customer and contractual requirements.
The Inspector will also perform Non-Destructive Testing in the NDT disciplines they are certified too and document those activities in reports and required forms. Job Description :
- Oversee / monitors inspections then documents inspection results on required forms.
- Perform VT, MT, PT and UT inspections as required.
- Analyzes documents, drawing, customer requirements and quality procedures to ensure the Company meets the requirements and standards of the customer.
- Generate, review and / or submit condition found reports, test and inspection plans, process control procedures, test documents and / or corrective action reports (CAR) as required to document customer requirements or non-conformances.
- Inventories and maintains test equipment and gauges.
- May be tasked to prepare presentation materials, teaching aids, handouts, etc. and conduct training when requested.
- Perform audits and / or surveillance as needed or assigned.
- Work independently to complete responsibilities.
- Travel to work locations when required, both CONUS and OCONUS.
- Will abide by all Safety Requirements.
Qualifications :
- Must have at least three (3) years’ experience in NDT and Quality Control / Assurance.
- Must have a combination of any of the following NDT Certifications; VT, MT, PT and / or UT.
- Meet minimum hours in method : (documented OJT hours for each method getting certified in), this can be from prior employment. VT 210 MT 280 PT 210
- Meet minimum classroom hours for method : (documentation required). VT 24 MT 20 PT 12
- Must pass (minimum 80%) following Pegasus Steel Level II Test for each method : General exam Specific exam Practical exam
- Must have excellent interpersonal, negotiation, communication and writing skills.
- Must have strong organizational skills.
- Must be able to get access to Government Facilities
- Must understand NAVSEA Standard Items and other Government Specifications.
- Must have regular, reliable attendance.
- Must be able to work at least 50 hours weekly (Five 10hr. shifts).
Desired Qualifications :
- Prefer related Department of Defense experience including direct experience with government customer relations.
- Prefer experience with NAVSEA Standard Items and ISO requirements.
- Experience with NAVSEA Standard Items and ISO requirements preferred.
Physical Requirements :
- Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Climb, Reach, Push and Pull, Stoop, Crawl, Kneel, Balance, Lift and Carry various objects and equipment.
- General shipyard / industrial environment. Work has physical demands that require frequent movement up to 65% of the time.
- Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there is minimal exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.
Hear, talk, and smell.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available, but also requires safe navigation and regular partnership with operations teams within shipyard / industrial environments.
- A considerable amount of time is spent operating a personal computer.
- Must be able to climb up and down stairs and spend time moving throughout the facility and onboard marine vessels.
- Must be physically agile to perform tasks in naval ships. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces, including enter and moving through manholes.
- Work in extreme temperatures and conditions. At times you will work in areas that have less adequate ventilation
- Frequent use of respirator.
- Protective clothing or equipment and face shields or goggles shall be worn when welding, cutting, or working with molten metal.
