Position Overview
The Biller will be responsible for managing billing and claims for ABA therapy services, ensuring compliance with insurance requirements and accurate reimbursement.
This position requires close attention to detail, knowledge of medical billing practices, and an understanding of the unique needs of ABA services.
Responsibilities
- Manage relationships with insurance providers, state and federal agencies, and other community-based funding sources.
- Implement a consistent and reliable process for claims submission and processing.
- File claims electronically using appropriate software, ensuring timely and accurate submission.
- Ensure accuracy of patient demographic information, proper code use, and adherence to modifier requirements.
- Maintain expertise in ABA CPT codes.
- Familiarity with TRICARE and federal mandates for behavioral health billing; experience with Medi-Cal / Managed Care groups such as Molina, Community Health Group, and Blue Shield is highly preferred.
- Review Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) to identify and resolve missed payments or financial discrepancies.
- Coordinate with insurance departments to ensure claims are paid according to contracted rates.
- File secondary claims as necessary and prepare patient invoice statements.
- Analyze EOBs and post payments in the practice management software for documentation and transparency.
- Work closely with the Accounts Receivable department to ensure proper payment posting and tracking of EOBs.
- Assist with tracking supervision requirements for audits by certification boards and funding sources.
- Collaborate with staff on case oversight requirements and assist with credentialing and contracting obligations.
- Stay updated on changes in ABA billing codes, insurance regulations, and payer policies.
- Provide support in generating monthly billing reports and analyses.
- Respond to patient and payer inquiries regarding billing, payments, and balances.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in medical billing, preferably in ABA or behavioral health services.
- Knowledge of CPT codes, ICD-10, HCPCS, and insurance billing practices.
- Familiarity with ABA billing procedures and regulations is a plus.
- Proficiency in billing software and electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
