Who We Are :
The Atlanta Community Food Bank is working to end hunger in our community with the food, people and big ideas needed so that no one worries where their next meal is coming from.
Since 1979, we’ve been providing food for a growing network of nonprofit partners including food pantries, community kitchens, childcare centers, night shelters and senior centers.
We currently serve more than 700 partners in 29 counties across metro Atlanta and north Georgia.
Where You’ll Work : Hunger Action Center / Logistics
About the Role :
The Volunteer Group Leader is responsible to achieve the Hunger Action Center production goals through efficient processes, while providing exemplary customer service to the individuals and groups who volunteer their time to assist the Atlanta Community Food Bank mission.
Volunteer Group Leaders are expected to perform hands-on packing, warehouse, inventory management and related administrative tasks.
Responsibilities also include training and leading volunteer workers in a warehouse setting, while maintaining the safety of the food supply chain and other compliance initiatives.
As this position interacts with the public, Group Leaders have the responsibility to speak in front of groups with an outgoing, encouraging, and positive demeanor.

The Volunteer Group Leader reports to the Supervisor, Operations.
What You’ll Do : Customer Service :
Customer Service :
Checks-in volunteers for their shift; collects waivers and records accurate volunteer data.
Leads discussions and engage with volunteers on the mission and operation of the Food Bank as well as hunger and poverty issues.
Ensures the appreciation of volunteers.
Positively represents the Food Bank to all who encounter the Hunger Action Center.
Packing / Warehousing :
Ensures that the Hunger Action Center is clean and set up for each shift in a timely manner.
Trains volunteers in assigned tasks in the Hunger Action Center
Works hands on to perform packing, warehousing and inventory management tasks with volunteers and team
Oversees volunteer adherence to personnel and food safety standards.
Maintains quality control over product being sorted and packed by inspecting product throughout the process, and ensuring all products are accurately coded and stored properly.
Maintains accurate reports including Floor inventory, inspection / sanitation checklists, disposal reports, temperature records, equipment logs, etc.
Performs inventory control and ensures proper rotation of product utilizing First In, First Out (FIFO) principles.

Demonstrated experience working in warehousing or packing environment.
Demonstrated experience interacting with diverse groups of people in a professional manner.

Experience with public speaking, speaking in front of groups and / or overseeing the work of volunteers
Knowledgeable with material handling equipment.
Experience providing a quality experience to volunteers, so they are motivated to continue their support of the Food Bank mission

This position works in a typical warehouse setting with varying temperatures.
This position will require frequent bending, stooping, reaching, climbing, and walking, and there may be extended periods of sitting and / or standing.
This position would normally have routine opportunities to alter physical position or change eye focus.
This position requires periodic lifting of up to 40 pounds.
