JOB SUMMARY :
Participate in the day-to-day operation of the CT department, including quality control and patient exam acquisition. Perform all exams as listed in the Procedure Manual under the direction of the assigned Radiologist.
May be assigned non-technical responsibilities as needed and / or transfer to other areas as needed.
REPORTS TO :
JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Competently and efficiently perform all CT procedures listed in the protocol manual.
- Perform and / or capable of performing daily quality control tests within the CT / MRI department
as specified in the CT / MR procedure manual.
- Send images to PACS.
- Properly adjust contrast and density levels of the laser cameras as needed. Merge studies on
PACS when needed.
- Use alternate filming methods as needed. Understand MedView system.
- Appropriately adjust the scanning protocols as necessary for age specific exams.
- Proficiently use all functions of both scanners in CT.
- Proficiently process images, including bone windows, soft tissue windows, reconstructions and
3D imaging at the completion of exams.
Competently use all functions of the computer system. Correctly charge all exams according to
the proper CPT definition as soon as the exam is completed. When applicable, edit requests,
look up lab results, and promptly send all charge corrections to the Administrative Coordinator.
Proficiently start IV’s and injects contrast media as needed. Appropriately choose the contrast
media needed for exams.
Explain and witness consent forms as needed. Educate patients and families regarding the
exam and time frame for exams prior to performing any procedures. Use the Contrast screening
form.
May be responsible for specific areas of instruction regarding new staff, ancillary personnel and
South Plains students.
- Assist the Lead Technologist in training new employees.
- Maintain a professional manner when interacting with all members of the department and
physicians.
Cover Standby in MRI on a rotating basis, and Standby for CT when needed. When on call ,
responsible for covering all shifts in CT / MRI when paged. Work holidays, nights and weekends
as needed.
Transport patients to and from the exam tables carefully and courteously. Transport patients
and supplies to other areas of the hospital as needed.
- Maintain a professional manner at all times, especially during times of high stress.
- Schedule Outpatients for exams in CT in appropriate time slots. Ensure all necessary
information is available, including ordering Physician, diagnosis, insurance and Pre-certification
information.
Maintain a current registration with ARRT and TDH. Maintain the appropriate hours of continuing
education, giving copies to Administration. Maintain CPR certification.
Keep the exam rooms stocked and cleaned. Inform the appropriate person when supplies are
needed.
Assist in other areas of Radiology as needed. Perform non-technical tasks as requested by
management.
- Attend all department staff meetings, and any meetings called by Lead Tech.
- Adhere to all department policies and procedures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
- Graduate of an accredited School of Radiography.
- An associates degree, or more advanced, in the applied science of Radiologic Technology.
- Twenty Four months experience working as a Radiologic Technologist in a hospital setting.
REQUIRED LICENSURES / CERTIFICATIONS / REGISTRATIONS :
- Current TDH-MRT license required.
- Current ARRT registry required.
- Current CPR certification required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Two years progressive and relevant hospital experience. Able to use independent judgement and work without supervision. Must be capable of starting ’s and injecting contrast.
Must have very good customer service skills. Work in a fast paced stressful environment.
INTERACTION WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS AND OTHER RELATIONSHIPS :
Communicate effectively with Physicians.
PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES :
Must be emotionally and physically fit. The work requires frequent standing, walking, and lifting of patients and supplies.
The work is at times stressful with many emotional demands. Must possess near visual acuity. Must be able to lift 50lb.
ENVIRONMENTAL / WORKING CONDITIONS :
This position is subject to inside environmental conditions. Occupational risk to blood born pathogens is moderate to high.
