Operating Room (Unscheduled, Day Shift) -

The Surgical Technician (ST) provides high level of care by assisting with age-specific surgical procedures, practices principles of surgical asepsis, identifies breaks in the sterile field and ensures that appropriate action is taken.

Anticipates needs of the surgical team and promotes efficient flow of the operative procedure, serves as a resource for specialty area and functions effectively in multiple areas.

Follows policies, protocols, techniques, and guidelines, utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service, safe patient care and professionalism.

Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population.

Performs other duties as needed.

High School Diploma or GED required. Graduated from an accredited Surgical Technology program recognized by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) preferred.

Minimum two years of experience in Surgical Technology preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Certification in Surgical Technology from national association preferred.

Uses computer and software programs necessary to the position; operate / troubleshoot office equipment; calibrate patient care equipment;

perform technical patient care activities. Communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others. Respond courteously when under pressure.

  • Able to read and write legibly; relate and be assertive and consistent in following and / or enforcing policies; work calmly and lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate;
  • accept direction. Communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone with professional quality;
  • think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively;
  • work well under pressure in a fast paced environment; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy;

pay close attention to detail. Must be able to recognize persons, read documents and remember instructions. Visual acuity and good hearing required.

Must be able to speak and hear communications clearly.
