These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner, following the mission, values, and behaviors of Insight Hospital and Medical Center.
Employees are further expected to provide a high quality of care, service, and kindness toward all patients, staff, physicians, volunteers, and guests.
Third Shift Responsibilities :
- Assist with goodnight procedures as needed.
- Start the nighttime study.
- Monitor polygraph recording throughout the night, making adjustments as necessary, making notations of patient movements, body positions, snoring, etc.
and recording oxygen saturation periodically(every 5-10 minutes).
- Monitor video display during the study.
- Monitor computer during study / save data after good morning.
- Attend to any patient needs.
- Monitor CPAP / BiPAP pressures and regulate to the point at which apneas and hypopneas are eliminated in all sleep stages and positions.
- Hook-up oxygen ( O2) for patient when ordered by physician during the course of the study.
- Troubleshoot equipment or procedural problems that arise during the night.
- Hours are 6 : 30 p.m.- 7 : 00 a.m.
Perform Good morning Procedures :
- Awaken patient and remove appropriate electrodes ( legs, intercostals,) also thermocouples, thoracic effort belt and SAO2 probe and CPAP / BIPAP if appropriate.
- Explain breakfast procedures to patient.
- Do post calibrations on equipment.
- Verify orders for MSLT's, if no orders are given proceed with unhooking patient. ( If in doubt wait till physician reviews record with patient before removing electrodes.)
- Verify that patient meal has arrived.
- Sterilize thermocouples.
- Clean finger / ear probe with alcohol, carefully place probe in bedside stand .
- Remove study from polygraph machine and place on exam table in physician office.
- Prepare polygraph for MSLT's if appropriate.
- Review documentation and have available for physicians.
- Answer phones as needed.
- Attend to clerical duties as time allows.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
