Argonne is located 25 miles southwest of Chicago on a beautiful 1,500-acre campus.

The Decision and Infrastructure Sciences (DIS) division researches, designs, and delivers scientific tools and methodologies to inform decision-making regarding the most challenging security, risk, and resilience problems.

As a multidisciplinary national laboratory, Argonne offers an exciting atmosphere in which to collaborate on interdisciplinary projects that focus on complex technical problems and integrated application of natural, social, and computer science practices.

To assist our research mission, DIS is seeking an Energy Security and Resilience Analystto support our growing national security, energy security, and climate resilience analyses missions in collaboration with DOE program offices, DOD, and state / territory governments.

In this position, you will :

Develop methodologies and processes to compile and analyze relevant energy sector data and present it in a manner that appropriately characterizes energy sector risk at federal, state, and global scales.

Conduct all-source analysis to research, propose, and write a range of finished products on issues related to energy security and resilience, inclusive of defense critical energy infrastructure and other critical energy infrastructure.

Act as an energy sector subject matter and represent the division before sponsors and stakeholders.

Identify, define, and articulate the value of energy security planning, response, and restoration efforts on behalf of federal, state, and international governments.

Lead technical assistance efforts focused on educating the energy sector on climate resilience planning efforts, inclusive of collaboration with external electric power organizations, trade associations, consortium, or other industry organizations.

Interface with subject matter experts in key fields from across Argonne to produce a range of assessments and reports for senior government officials.

Work with DIS and other Argonne subject matter experts to support government sponsors interested in a wide range of both domestic and international energy sector threats and hazards.

This position requires a hybrid schedule; on-site presence will be required at the Argonne campus in Lemont, Illinois 2-5 days each week.

Position Requirements

To perform the essential functions of this position successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship and have the ability to acquire and maintain a Top Secret / SCI or Q / SCI clearance (DOD or DOE), which is required to comply with federal regulations and contracts.

A formal education in one of the following fields : Energy Systems Engineering, Utility Management, Public Utility Regulation, Public Policy, Public / Government Affairs, Computer Science / Modeling, Physics, Civil Engineering, or related fields.

Candidates with experience working in one of the technical areas described will also be considered.

Experience working with DOE program offices, DOD energy offices, and / or state and local governments on energy security and climate resilience topics is a plus.

Extensive knowledge of energy sector supply chains and risk assessment methodologies as well as experience developing various finished products while adhering to appropriate information security practices.

Ability to use independent judgment and abstract from specific problems to general solutions / findings.

Strong oral and written communications skills, including the ability to translate technical information into plain language for different sponsor audiences.

Skill and experience working on multiple projects simultaneously, including demonstrated project management practices and the ability to manage deadlines and resources.

Skill and experience collaborating with team members and leading independent analysis in support of projects.

This position can be hired at one of two levels; the selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level (RD2 or RD3) dependent upon the depth and breadth of relevant knowledge and skills.

The minimum requirements of the two levels are as follows :

At a RD2 Level : Bachelor's and 5+ years, Master's and 3+ years or a PhD; or equivalent.

At a RD3 Level : Bachelor's and 8+ years or Master's and 5+ years or PhD and 4+ years; or equivalent.
