Department Summary
University Health Services (UHS) is a unit within the Division of Student Services and Enrollment Management and is a nationally accredited (AAAHC) outpatient clinic providing primary care to students at the University of Oregon.
All staff are required to uphold the values of the UHS.
This position works in support of the University Health Services mission and vision and is consistent with UO policy. Some aspects of this position may be completed in collaboration with other University departments.
Position Summary
This position will be part of the Mental Health Access Team at UHS. This team is the first contact for all students who call or drop in seeking mental health care.
This team provides rapid access to students by determining their immediate needs and then helps the student identify appropriate next steps, including referrals to University Health Services as well as campus and community resources.
Knowing students may arrive in many states of mental health, our intake team serves as the first point of contact for all students, from those with minimal mental health support needs through those having an acute mental health crisis.
The Case Manager / Intake Specialist works collaboratively on an interdisciplinary team of professionals to meet the diverse mental health needs of a global student community.
This position provides culturally responsive mental health services to UO students including initial consultation / triage, emergency / crisis services, and case management and referral support.
They must work exceptionally well with students of color, LGBTQ+ students, international students, and other underrepresented students and communities on campus.
Typical duties include :
- Providing initial consultation and triage for students accessing mental health services.
- Providing crisis intervention services, establishing appropriate stabilization, and disposition planning for students who have experienced mental health crises.
- Assisting students in their efforts to schedule appointments with campus and community resources.
- Tracking campus and community referrals and ensuring appropriate information and follow-up care.
- Responding to parent, faculty / staff, and other professional contacts for information about UHS services.
This position reports to the Director of Counseling Services.
This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and routine screening of Medicaid and Medicare Exclusion Lists.
Employee loses eligibility for employment if on the List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE) and / or System of Award Management (SAM).
In addition, employee must follow Compliance with UHS policies regarding tuberculosis screening, measles and mumps (MMR), seasonal flu, hepatitis B, and other immunization requirements.
Minimum Requirements
- Master’s degree in counseling, couples and family therapy, social work, or a related field.
- Master’s degree applicants must be currently licensed in Oregon prior to the start date.
- Doctoral-level applicants must be licensable in Oregon. If currently licensed in another state, must be licensed in Oregon within four months of hire.
Unlicensed doctoral applicants must have an approved residency contract with the Oregon Board of Psychologists within one month of the start date and must be licensed within two years of the start date.
- One year of experience with mental health issues relevant to college populations.
- One year of crisis intervention experience and skills.
- One year of experience with case management in mental health settings.
