Global Health Strategies (GHS) is seeking a Director / Sr. Director for its growing pharmaceutical practice, supporting pharmaceutical clients to drive impact on critical global health issues.

Our services blend creative communications messaging, media and digital with strategic advocacy leadership voice, champion engagement, policy research and events.

We support their efforts to develop and enable equitable access to health technologies, products and innovations. We help them to :

  • Communicate about science and R&D (e.g., immunization, HIV, tuberculosis, infectious diseases, cancer, non-communicable diseases and more)
  • Manage relationships with global health stakeholders (e.g., connect clients with stakeholders at the global, regional and local levels)
  • Navigate complex issues (e.g., global health financing, policy and access)
  • GHS is headquartered in the United States (New York) with country offices that serve as regional hubs : Brazil (Rio de Janeiro) / Latin America;
  • United Kingdom (London) / Europe and the Middle East; Senegal (Dakar) / West Africa; South Africa (Johannesburg) / Southern Africa;

Kenya (Nairobi) / East Africa; India (New Delhi) / Southeast Asia; Indonesia (Jakarta) / Southeast Asia and Oceania.

We have strong relationships across regions with government, industry, media, academia and civil society stakeholders.

About the Role

The Director / Sr. Director will bring expertise in creative communications, media relations and stakeholder engagement and have experience working with the pharmaceutical industry.

They will lead global teams, devise communications strategies, mobilize people to act, build expertise across wide-ranging topics and provide strategic advice to diverse clients.

This is the ideal position for an intelligent, entrepreneurial, motivated and passionate senior

professional with a sophisticated understanding of an evolving global health and pharmaceutical environment and a strong background in developing and executing creative communications campaigns.

The individual should possess excellent diplomatic and client relations skills, an energetic and flexible management style and thrive in a fast-paced, demanding and entrepreneurial environment.

This is a full-time, New York-based position.

Specific responsibilities include :

Communications

  • Making complex concepts accessible and actionable to a wide audience by developing strategies for creating key messages, fact sheets, social media posts and other creative communications products, leveraging trends and mobilizing teams accordingly
  • Building strong relationships with top-tier media outlets to secure impactful coverage on behalf of clients.
  • Elevating the voices and expertise of high-level influencers by polishing opinion pieces at key moments, prepping them for interviews and providing ongoing counsel

Advocacy

  • Identifying strategic moments and champions to influence target stakeholders and amplify our clients’ goals
  • Getting partners on the same page through careful coordination, relationship management and message alignment
  • Overseeing high-level events , including identifying invitees and speakers, and developing agendas or presentations
  • Building new coalitions of support for an issue with dedicated outreach, organization and relationship management

Client / Project Management

  • Overseeing all major deliverables, including developing a vision and strategy and delegating work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Managing client relationships and accounts, ensuring needs are met, budgets are on-target and executive management is kept apprised of project development
  • Understanding background and nuance across our priority issue areas to form compelling arguments and provide strategic counsel to clients
  • Coaching junior staff members on writing, client-facing interactions and time management skills
  • Serving as a member of the senior management team, helping drive business development, organizing and attending events and meetings with senior management and representing the firm

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 7-10 years of work experience, preferably including time spent in or adjacent to the pharmaceutical industry
  • Deep expertise in communications and media relations
  • Exceptional writing ability with emphasis in persuasive writing
  • Experience managing client relationships and mentoring teams to achieve ambitious results
  • Experience managing budgets
  • Creative and collaborative management style with a hands-on approach to project management (i.e., willingness to roll up one’s sleeves )
  • Microsoft Office proficiency

Valuable Qualifications

  • Communications agency experience
  • Foreign language skills (French or Spanish, in particular)
  • International work experience
  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • Experience with Adobe Suite of creative tools (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) or Canva

Compensation offered will be dependent on the hired title and level, ranging between 115-140k
