Overview
Draws blood from patients and processes specimens. Performs laboratory / radiology clerk duties as assigned. Required to work alternate shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Greets patients and performs phlebotomy to collect blood specimens.
- Identifies and labels specimens accurately.
- Accessions specimens, processes specimens and delivers to the appropriate laboratory section.
- Performs blood glucose monitoring.
- Assures appropriate documentation in all aspects of laboratory testing to meet regulatory requirements.
- Responds to questions from physicians and nurses regarding laboratory testing.
- Performs laboratory / radiology clerk duties to include answering the telephone, releasing lab and x-ray orders form EPIC, and order entry in LIS of orders from non-Mercy physicians.
- May be asked to participate in teaching and training.
- Keeps work area clean and organized.
- Assures adequate inventory of supplies.

Education and Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Prior phlebotomy experience desired.
Certification and Licensure
Phlebotomy Certification (PBT) or eligible for certification through an accredited organization required within 90 days.
Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.
