Location : Remote (with occasional travel to client sites and Athena hub cities)

What You’ll Do 🔍
As an Actuarial Manager, you’ll be a trusted partner to your clients and a coach to your team. You’ll set the vision for your projects and lead the day-to-day execution with the support of a collaborative, cross-functional group. You’ll have the opportunity to shape deliverables, lead client communications, and support new business efforts in a dynamic and mission-aligned environment.
Key responsibilities include :
Research and gather information
Leading analysis of plan data, financial statements, and actuarial models
Overseeing creation, review, and refinement of actuarial tools and Excel models
Conducting quality reviews and self-checks on project work
Setting direction and supporting client deliverables from concept to presentation
Mentoring junior team members and overseeing their professional development
Participating in Athena strategy discussions and contributing to internal initiatives
Upholding a high level of personal and professional integrity in all client and team interactions
What We’re Looking For ✅
Must-Haves :
6–10 years of relevant actuarial experience
Healthcare experience, which can include Medicaid, Tricare, employer health, etc.
Progress toward ASA or FSA, a minimum of 3 passed exams
Adaptable to ambiguity and able to handle undefined assignments, serving as a flexible team player ready to tackle new and evolving tasks.
Experience and desire in developing junior actuarial resources through training and day-to-day collaboration
Experience leading a team
Experience in actuarial services
Strong organization skills
Insatiable curiosity and interest in learning new things
Ability to work independently in a remote environment and travel as needed for client requirements
Role requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal public trust clearance
Nice-to-Haves : ASA or FSA
Experience in consulting
Experience with rate setting and related methodologies
Experience with health plan comparisons
Risk adjustment / scoring experience
Experience with Federal Health Agencies (e.g., HHS, CMS, AHRQ, etc.)
Familiarity with programming tools like SAS, SQL, or MacroVB
