About this opportunity :

Assists the Divisional Music & Arts Director in promoting the development, improvement, and advancement of music, dance, and drama for worship. Instructs, encourages, and guides various Salvation Army ensembles with their involvement in worship and evangelistic outreach in the Division. Plans, administers, and conducts various music and creative arts seminars, camps, institutes, conferences, etc. Travels throughout the division to assist local corps in developing music and / or creative arts programs. Performs music and / or creative arts selections to support various worship services, divisional events, and fundraising efforts.

Key responsibilities :

• Assists the Divisional Music & Arts Director in planning, overseeing, and administering Divisional programs and activities that support the objectives of the Music & Arts department; initiates and implements new programs and activities with the approval of DHQ and Corps Officers that support and realize the objectives of the mission-centered focus of the department.
• Assists the Divisional Music & Arts Director in planning, coordinating, and executing the annual Kimball Meeks Music & Arts Conservatory; helps with the hiring process and supervision of counselors / instructors; teaches various subjects.
• Assists the Divisional Music & Arts Director in planning, coordinating, and executing the annual Georgia Music Institute; teaches various subjects.
• Assists the Divisional Music & Arts Director in planning and coordination of monthly Divisional Music and Arts Rehearsal; Serves as a leader for various divisional music and / or creative arts ensembles, including recruiting and determining personnel, selecting repertoire, leading rehearsals, planning ministry trips and other performance opportunities, and overseeing all administrative aspects.
• Assists the Divisional Music & Arts Director in the promotion of music programming throughout the Division. Ensures the evaluation of programs on a continual basis and that programs / activities respond to the participant’s needs and the department’s mission.
• Assists the Divisional Music & Arts Director in developing and promoting leadership training material and seminars presented at Local Officer Trainings, Conservatory, and other Divisional Events that will help instruct and strengthen the local leaders in the Division.
• Assists the Divisional Music & Arts Director in arranging, composing, writing, creating, and / or choreographing special selections as requested for various Divisional events and activities; arranges performance items to fit groups, meeting themes, time restraints, and ability levels.
• Assist with the planning, setup and execution of any audio and video elements for various Divisional Events, including coordinating and operating equipment as well as managing technical teams.
• Produces audio and video content for various Divisional Events, including filming, editing and postproduction, and ensuring the final product aligns with event themes and objectives.
• Travels to various Salvation Army Corps in the Division for the development of music and creative arts programs used for worship, as directed by the Divisional Music & Arts Director. This involves meeting with local corps on a regular basis; developing curriculum; selecting performance material; and recruiting and training group leaders for programs.
• Under the direction of the Divisional Music and Arts Director, provides counsel and assistance to the many Local Officer music and creative arts leaders at Corps across the Division in advancing the interests of performing arts ministry and education.
• Serves as a facilitator for various music and / or creative arts leadership cohorts, arranging for training and discussion through conference calls and in-person sessions; follows up regularly with individual leaders for development, encouragement, and resourcing.
• Provides field service to the Corps for the development of significant, innovative, and meaningful resources for worship through music and creative arts. Prepares worship resource materials for suggested use by units throughout the Division, as requested by Corps Officers and instructed by the Divisional Music & Arts Director.
• Assists the Divisional Music & Arts Director in developing strategies to generate program participation; identifies and cultivates program participants; identifies and trains leaders at assigned Corps to ensure continued program development and growth.
• Performs in music and / or creative arts ensembles to promote goodwill and raise awareness for The Salvation Army during the Christmas season and other times as requested; travels as needed for these events. Serves as soloist or ensemble performer at various Corps meetings and events.
• Assists the Divisional Music & Arts Director in overseeing proper record keeping and reporting including activities and events conducted, participation figures, statistical outcomes, notable achievements, and other relevant issues.
• Maintains divisional music and arts library; maintains an inventory of all divisional music and arts supplies; manages the proper care / repair of divisional instruments; maintains the instruments / music / equipment storage area assigned to the music department.
• Distributes music and arts related materials and suggestions regarding utilization for music and arts ministry.
• Uses social media and online platforms to promote Divisional program and initiatives, create and share resources for worship and performing arts education, and encourage, develop, and challenge leaders and participants in both the Divisional and local Corps music and creative arts programs.
• Participates in appropriate Divisional & Territorial events, committees, and activities, such as Territorial Music Institute, TMI, Territorial Music Committee, TMC, Staff Band, Songsters, TAM, Transmission as needed.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions :

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to read and hear music notes. Proficiency in an applicable performing arts medium. Ability to travel throughout the Division as necessary. Ability and willingness to perform all duties with an understanding of the mission, ministry, philosophy, culture, and protocol of The Salvation Army and conducts all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism. Duties are usually performed standing or seated. Standing or sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of walking. Ability to stand for extended periods of time while leading a musical band during performances. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 60 lbs.). Work is usually performed in a normal office environment where there is little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like, but not limited to the office and or normal church environment with the exception of travel conditions.
