Broad Function :

Under direction of the Director of Student Services and Special Education, This position is responsible for providing guidance, support, and mentorship to students in the realm of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL).

In addition, this position is responsible for fostering a positive and inclusive school culture that prioritizes the development of emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills, and overall well-being in students.

  • Essential FUnctions and Responsibilities :
  • Mentorship and Support :
  • Provides one-to-one and group mentoring sessions to students, focusing on SEL competencies such as self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.
  • Offers guidance to teachers and staff in integrating SEL principles into their classroom practices and interactions with students.
  • Proactively collaborates with educators to develop and adapt SEL curriculum and resources suitable for various age groups and learning levels.
  • Professional Development :
  • Attends workshops and training sessions that will help them enhance their understanding of SEL concepts and effective implementation strategies.
  • Stays up to date on the latest research and trends in SEL education, sharing relevant insights with the school community in a timely manner.
  • Crisis Support :
  • Provides emotional support and guidance to students during challenging times, acting as a resource for coping strategies and resilience-building techniques.
  • Proactively collaborates with school crisis teams and administrators to address urgent SEL-related concerns. Takes action to implement initiatives, and reports to administrator in a timely manner any concerns or issues related to issues as they arise.
  • Parent and Community Engagement :
  • Organizes workshops and events for parents and caregivers, educating them about the importance of SEL and providing strategies for reinforcing SEL skills at home.
  • Proactively collaborates with community organizations to extend SEL initiatives beyond the school environment.
  • Collaborative Initiatives :
  • Works closely with other school staff, including counselors, teachers,SEL interventionist,social workers, SEL Coordinators and administrators, to ensure a cohesive and holistic approach to SEL across the school.

Job Requirements and Experience :

  • Ability to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to make strategic decisions consistently through a combination of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment
  • Demonstrated strong ability to manage details for precision and accuracy required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, administrators, teachers and staff;

manage, support, work well under pressure; work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously required.

  • Outstanding problem-solving skills required.
  • Ability to work effectively with principals and teachers to support students impacted by disparities and inequities including poverty, mobility, Multilingual Learners, and children with a disability required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and get along with a diverse group of co-workers and other stakeholders required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, counseling, or a related field required; (Master's degree preferred)
  • Strong understanding of Social and Emotional Learning principles and their application in an educational setting required.
  • Experience in mentoring, coaching, or counseling, preferably with a focus on youth development required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with students, staff, parents, and community partners required.
  • Ability to adapt and tailor SEL strategies to diverse student populations and learning environments required.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities required.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for supporting students' holistic growth required.
  • Ability to work up to 15 hours a week required.

Salary & Compensation :

$25.00 per hour
