Job Summary :

EHS professional provides executive level leadership for EHS activities within all company business units. Role is for a career EHS professional with a passion for driving continuous improvement in process efficiency and effectiveness.

This individual leads the entire organization and provides leadership and technical expertise to meet all business and company EHS objectives.

The Sr. EHS Director demonstrates exceptional technical / communication skills and has the ability to influence leaders across all functions.

Role advises company executives on all EHS matters as appropriate. Provides functional supervision to one or more EHS professionals and serves as defacto mentor to all other members of the EHS team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations.
  • Plans and implements EHS programs, trains supervisors, managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemical hazards, physical hazards (ie.

machine guarding), and other workplace safety issues.

  • Prepares studies and reports of incidents for use by company personnel.
  • Inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential incidents and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Provides information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
  • Leads the investigation of incidents and injuries and coordinates the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in workers’ comp hearings, lawsuits, insurance reports as well as OSHA, EPA or DOT investigations.
  • Oversees the administration of workers' compensation program; partnering with operations leaders, human resource professionals, risk management, legal department officials and insurance adjusters.
  • Oversees the administration of the company drug & alcohol testing program and closely partners with Hood’s human resource representatives on compliance efforts.
  • Oversees the administration of the company fleet safety manual and closely partners with Hood’s distribution and transportation representatives on compliance efforts.
  • Oversee and guide the OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA Risk Management Plan (RMP) compliance efforts associated with use of anhydrous ammonia at our 12 processing plants.
  • Prepares and arranges safety exhibits and material for display, promotional work, industry conferences, and exhibitions.

Education and Experience :

Requires a minimum of a BA / BS degree in science, engineering or related discipline plus 20 years of related experience, 10 of which are in management leadership capacity.

A master's degree in a relevant discipline or certification as a CSP or other recognized certification is desired.

Experience in a manufacturing setting preferred, food & beverage is a plus.

NYS : $193,500 - $221,600

CT : $192,200 - $220,000
