Job Summary

Under general supervision, perform and oversee a variety of duties relating to the processing and delivery of U.S. and campus mail in accordance with campus and US Postal Services (USPS) rules and regulations.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license, certification and / or educational degree if required of the position.

  • Experience working with US Postal Regulations to process all types of mail including Periodical and Standard mail.
  • Experience driving a light truck or van weighing less than 1 1 / 2 tons.
  • Experience with calculators in performing basic mathematical calculations.
  • Knowledge of mail sorting schemes.
  • Writing and printing skills to legibly annotate time cards, postal statements, etc.
  • Reading skills to understand policy and procedures and to read and understand mailing addresses.
  • Interpersonal / communication skills to relate with other staff, campus community, and general public, in person, by phone and email.
  • Organizational and time management skills to establish goals, set priorities and manage deadlines; to multi-task and adjust priorities.
  • Computer skills to produce email correspondence, reports and enter data on the computer terminal and use software programs, such as : Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Excel and related software programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience to recognize hazardous goods as outlined by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the Department of Transportation (DOT).
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of US Postal Service rates and regulations.
  • Knowledge of campus departments and department locations.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated skill to utilize material handling equipment.
  • Skill to access and provide feedback to supervisor for evaluating employee performance.
  • Skill to operate both manual and automatic transmission vehicles.

Physical Demands

  • Lift materials weighing up to 70 lbs.
  • Safely perform heavy tasks using continuous movement (e.g. stoop, bend, reach, twist; climb, squat, etc.) to lift and move cumbersome objects.
  • Stand for long periods of time.

Work Environment

  • Successfully complete initial and recurrent hazardous material training within six months from hire. Participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System.
  • A valid California Drivers License is required.
  • Work a flexible schedule; work occasional overtime; work occasional varied lunch hours, and work occasional weekends and holidays.
  • Participate in UCDHS's Medical Clearance Program and must participate in required preventative medical and medical monitoring programs which may include blood tests, immunizations (seasonal flu vaccination), TB screening, confirmation of immune status for measles, rubella, varicella and blood borne and airborne pathogen training, etc.

  • Work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and / or infectious diseases are present.
  • Arrive at work in uniform (as determined by management) and wear uniform throughout the shift.
  • UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.
