The Light Equipment Operator operates one or several types of power construction equipment (i.e. forklift, bobcat, compressor, riding-compactor, vehicle for running errands, small water truck, small dump truck and utility truck) to excavate, move and / or grade material.

In general, light equipment has a G.V.W. less than 26,000 pounds. This position works in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by his / her manager.

• Read, understand and apply Operating Manuals, plans and specifications and visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
• Follow established jobsite safety and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work area. Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
• Inspect subordinate’s work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies and explain, and take any corrective action needed.
• Operate gasoline, diesel, pneumatic or electric powered equipment to move objects or material according to project specifications.
• Assemble and operate compressors and pumps; operate levers and pedals on assigned equipment to lower bucket or scoop up material and to lift, swing, or dump material;

adjust hand wheels and depress foot pedals to drive machines and control attachments, such as blades, buckets, scrapers and swing booms.

• Perform light maintenance duties such as cleaning, greasing and oiling machines.
• Document maintenance logs on assigned equipment.

• Read, understand and apply Operating Manuals, plans and specifications and visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
• High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)Preferred
• Minimum 1 year heavy construction experience.
• Comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Must have a working knowledge of the operating limitations and safe work practices associated with the equipment being operated.
• Valid driver's license is required when the equipment will be operated on public roads.
