Job Summary Reports to Sleep Manager under supervision by Polysomnographic Technologist. A Student Polysomnographic Technologist works under the general supervision of the Medical Director and designee (department director / manager / supervisor / technologist) to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders.
This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education. Essential Functions
- Collect, analyze and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs and to determine final testing parameters / procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or Medical Director and laboratory protocols.
- Complete and verify documentation. Explain procedures to the patient.
- Prepare and calibrate testing equipment.
- Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards. Follow department procedural protocols (PSG, MSLT, MWT, PAP, oxygen titration etc.
to ensure collection of appropriate data.
- Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for optimal patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration and CO2 monitoring, etc).
- Fully engaged in own training and orientation and necessary education needed to develop skill set to meet all expectations of a Polysomnographic Technologist.
- Participates in quality management program, Joint Commission initiatives and process improvement projects.
- Establishes and maintains all policies, procedures in compliance with regulatory agencies, including maintaining the standards and accreditation set forth by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).
- Facilitates adequate inter and intra departmental communication.
- Participates in committees, professional organization and / or community activities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Required Currently, in a formal polysomnography program and / or enrolled in a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) program with the polysomnography option OR enrolled in or have completed the A-STEP online Self Study Modules in preparation for certification exam.
- Preferred Associate's Degree
- Familiar with the field of sleep medicine with progressive completion of an A-Step or other CAAHEP program. Required
- CRT-Polysomnographic Technologist - BRPT Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists Upon Hire required Or
- CRT-Respiratory Therapist Certification - NBRC National Board for Respiratory Care Upon Hire required Or
- CRT-REGISTERED SLEEP TECHNOLOGIST-ABSM #N / A Upon Hire required
- CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association Upon Hire required Or
- CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross Upon Hire required
