The Division for Land-Grant Engagement at West Virginia University Research Corporation is currently accepting applications for an AmeriCorps Coordinator.

About the Opportunity

This position is responsible for guiding and monitoring the AmeriCorps component of Energy Express statewide summer program and to ensure grant compliance.

What you'll do :

  • Oversee all aspects of AmeriCorps member vetting and background checks.
  • Engage and maintain AmeriCorps alumni database and other individuals to assist with recruitment.
  • Develop AmeriCorps e-grant reports from entry through submission.
  • In conjunction with the program director, other state staff and the WVU Human Resources unit, develop AmeriCorps member selection materials, including screening, interview rating, and reference checks protocols.
  • Design, develop and deliver training sessions regarding AmeriCorps policies and provisions and for Energy Express AmeriCorps member selection policies and procedures.
  • Provide input and assist with the development of the AmeriCorps grant application, clarifications and annual amendments.
  • Design, develop and deliver technical assistance to county selection committees.
  • Draft program materials, grant narratives, and other communications, as needed.
  • Promote AmeriCorps national identity through the development and dissemination of various media types.
  • Develop, update and distribute AmeriCorps member application and review and revise program policies and materials to ensure compliance.
  • Review and revise program policies and materials as they relate to AmeriCorps policy updates.
  • Respond to requests from Commission for National and Community Service (CNCS) and Volunteer WV for information, reports, stories, professional presentations, and photos.
  • Address any questions or issues regarding the Segal Educational Award.
  • Compile data from Energy Express logs and summaries.
  • Complete and submit all required AmeriCorps reports, including progress reports and year end reports.
  • Create a variety of reports from the database and My AmeriCorps portal which are essential to the selection process and to track application status.
  • Serve as the designated site administrator for Energy Express to give formal approval to all entered data and maintain the data entry of all pertinent information of AmeriCorps members.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement discussions and propose strategies for addressing program implementation challenges.
  • Develop, monitor and implement a comprehensive statewide recruitment plan.
  • Establish strong relationships with college and university career service, service-learning, minority and disability offices and other relevant faculty.
  • Monitor and maintain county applicant pools and member application processing via My AmeriCorps.
  • Work with Energy Express program manager to maintain relevant AmeriCorps information on the website.
  • Manage mentor and community coordinator time sheets in OnCorps.
  • Develop and conduct training of AmeriCorps members that serve as community coordinators at statewide training.
  • Provide an overview of community coordinator to the site supervisors.
  • Develop, maintain and disseminate interview and placement standards for AmeriCorps members.
  • Co-Develop and deliver presentations at annual Grant Accountability Training for WVU Extension agents that serve as Energy Express county contacts.
  • Participate in Energy Express site visits throughout the state to monitor adherence to AmeriCorps policies and regulations.
  • Assist Energy Express Director and Curriculum / Outreach Coordinator in meeting with state and county school officials to garner support for Energy Express.
  • Attend all Volunteer WV program directors' meetings and stay abreast of national and state AmeriCorps policies and regulations.
  • If funding permits, attend national Commission for National and Community Service (CNCS) conferences,
  • Assist the Co-Principal Investigator (PI) with the AmeriCorps grant.
  • Attend various meetings on and off campus.
  • Attend profession development related to this position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Five (5) years experience in program support or oversight
  • Supervisory experience
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and / or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

  • Interpersonal skills necessary to interact professionally with the WVU community, major partners in Energy Express program, and program participants

  • Knowledge of effective program membership recruitment techniques
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply effective program management protocol
  • Ability to rapidly acquire thorough knowledge of local and statewide partners involved in Energy Express program
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in any situation as dictated
  • Ability to work with diverse audiences
  • Ability to operate desktop computers utilizing databases, statistics, spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation software and to adapt to technology upgrades as they occur
  • Ability to function as a team member and to express personal concerns and needs in a professional, positive manner
  • Ability to maintain professional office decorum at all times
  • Ability to work with minimum direction to meet stated objectives
  • Ability to multi-task and set priorities
  • Ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of missions and desired outcomes of Energy Express and AmeriCorps
  • Ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of Corporation for National and Community Service policies and procedures regarding personnel, branding, and grant

Requirements

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Requires manual dexterity & feel, reaching, talking, hearing, fine finger manipulation, and climbing stairs. Activities are predominantly non-manual though some manual work not directly involved with altering or transporting of products may be included. Travel is required.

The WVURC was created as a not-for-profit corporation in 1985 to support research (R1) at West Virginia University. We provide evaluation, development, patenting, management, and marketing services for inventions of the faculty, staff and students of the University.

The WVURC receives and administers funds awarded by external agencies for research and other activities and is responsible for helping protect intellectual property through patents, copyrights and licensing agreements for start-up companies based on University research.
