Overview
Certified peer specialists are individuals who have lived experience with mental illness and are certified and trained to be direct service mental health staff.
Certified Peer Support Specialists work alongside clients, using their own lived experience with mental illness to teach skills to enhance psychiatric stability, social competencies, personal and emotional adjustment, and independent living and community skills, when these abilities are impaired by the symptoms of mental illness.
Type Part-time & Full-time, not less than 0.6 FTE
Location Duluth, MN
Pay $19 - $20.25, Hourly
Responsibilities
The Certified Peer Support Specialist works as part of an integrated treatment team, adhering to standards to serve adults and children diagnosed with mental illness by doing the following :
- Implementing the interventions identified in the individual treatment plan
- Referring persons served to other needed services, resources & supports coordinating and monitoring the quality these services
- Maintaining detailed records of all activities
Certified Peer Support Specialist Qualifications
Level I :
- Is at least 21 years of age
- Has a primary diagnosis of mental illness
- Is a current or former consumer of mental health services
- Must have successfully completed the DHS approved Certified Peer Specialist training and certification exam.
Level II :
Must meet all of the requirements for Certified Peer Support Specialist above and one or more of the following :
- Is qualified as a mental health practitioner
- Has at least 6,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of peer services to people with mental illness
- Has at least 4,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to people with mental illness and an additional 2,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of peer services to persons with mental illness
