Chief Estimator (Charlotte)

About the Role

The Fordy Group are working along side an established heavy civil construction contractor is seeking an experienced Chief Estimator to lead our estimating team. This leadership position oversees all bidding activities for grading, utilities, storm drainage, concrete, paving, and site development projects across the Southeast region.

The Chief Estimator will play a key role in ensuring bid accuracy, competitiveness, and risk management while maintaining strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop the estimating team; establish accuracy and efficiency standards.
• Develop bid strategies and oversee bid / no-bid decisions.
• Prepare and review detailed cost estimates, takeoffs, and production assumptions.
• Identify and mitigate project risks including utilities, geotechnical issues, traffic control, and phasing.
• Finalize bid pricing, markups, and contingencies.
• Manage subcontractor and vendor coverage and oversee pre-bid clarifications.
• Conduct comprehensive job handoffs to operations teams post-award.
• Ensure full compliance with DOT, municipal, and private-sector bid requirements.
