Qualifications :

Minimum of 10 year(s) of experience in Laboratory and / or other scientific work and project management. OR BA / BS Degree in Chemistry, Biology or Engineering

• Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS SharePoint, MS Teams, MS Outlook
• Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, Outlook), Promium Element of Laboratory Information Management System

Duties :

Assist the Laboratory Branch in performing technical functions including, instrument maintenance, database management, laboratory health and safety functions, and other duties as assigned.

Assist chemists with laboratory information management system (LIMS) entry including samples, work orders, evidence, testing LIMS interpreter and importing associated with electronic chain of custody, test method corrections and / or modifications in LIMS, creating written LIMS guidance documents, and tracking consumable inventory in LIMS.

Utilizes chemistry knowledge to assess analytical data received to ensure proper entry into specialized LIMS database, and as necessary uses chemistry knowledge to develop and / or modify chemical methods in LIMS.

Develops strategies to use different software tools to import analytical data and QA / QC data into appropriate locations.

Provides training on proper usage and develops training guides for chemists and technicians. 50%

• Support maintenance of laboratory instruments, including generating QA / QC runs (calibration checks, detection limit studies, etc.). 15%
• Shipping and Receiving Support 15%
• Maintain consumable inventory, identify needed inventory, organize supply room, help prepare documents 10%
• Backup support for chemical inventory (Vertere entry), assist SHEMP with safety walkthroughs, assist chemists with sample and receiving support, back-up for Glassware washing, other duties as assigned. 10%

Other :

• Annual EPA IT Security, EMS, other EPA required annual trainings, OSHA Hazcom, Annual health and safety refreshers.
• Specific instrument maintenance training, 24 hour lab safety training, 4 hour lab safety refresher, periodic developmental training classes, on the job training as needed.
• Health Safety Training : Initial and Annual Laboratory Safety Training
• Health and Safety Considerations : No field work, however, on-line course required in advance of laboratory / instrument work in laboratory space
• Potential exposure to toxic substances; Perform routine inventory of chemical materials. May be exposed to a wide range of chemicals, inorganic, organic, solvents, acids, standards and other chemicals.

• Required Safety Gear : Safety goggles or glasses, lab coat and appropriate chemical resistant gloves
• Safety Gear Use : Safety equipment / clothing to be used at all times when handling / receiving and while working in Labs or with hazardous materials.
