Join our Engineering Department to help perform routine measurements and positioning tasks associated with the precision alignment of components in a particle accelerator.
The incumbent will primarily work as a member of an alignment crew but may also take the role of alignment crew chief when necessary.
You will be responsible for the field calibration and accurate use of instruments such as laser trackers and portable measurement arms as well as optical levels, electronic theodolites, and fixed coordinate measuring machines.
Utilize computer-based survey systems. Work under minimal supervision while interfacing with engineers, designers, and physicists as required to accomplish assigned tasks.
When working as a crew chief, supervise other staff and take the responsibility of planning, selecting and ensuring correct alignment procedures are used for each task.
As a member of the Metrology crew, you will be responsible for the organization and quality of tasks assigned by the crew chief.
Accurately operate precision alignment field instruments to achieve the precision demanded by the task. These instruments include optical levels, transits, theodolites, PCMM arms, laser trackers, and specialized fixtures.
Maintain proper handling and storage of equipment and communicate any problems associated with equipment to alignment coordinator or group leader.
The incumbent will be required to work with of our computer-based systems such as Spatial Analyzer and maintain a knowledge of geometry and coordinate systems.
Document and report survey results, field measurements and problems associated with assignments.
Essential Job Functions :
- Perform precision alignment of components in the particle accelerator and other lab areas.
- Work as a member of an alignment crew. Lead crews as necessary.
- Ensure the effective planning and selection of correct alignment procedures are used for each task.
- Be responsible for the accurate use and field calibration of instruments such as laser trackers and portable measurement arms, as well as optical levels, electronic theodolites, and fixed coordinate measuring machines.
- Work under minimal supervision and interface with engineers, designers and physicists to accomplish the assigned tasks.
- Perform the duties of member of a metrology crew, responsible for the organization and quality of tasks assigned by the crew chief.
- Work with specialized survey software including Spatial Analyzer.
- Ensure survey planning and results are properly documented.
Qualifications :
- High School Graduate with 5 years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Some knowledge of survey and alignment principles.
- A basic understanding of geometry, trigonometry and coordinate systems.
- Some experience with metrology software packages (e.g. Spatial Analyzer, PolyWorks, Verisurf, etc.) is advantageous. General computer skills.
- Some mechanical skills advantageous (e.g. use of basic hand tools).
