Trinity University seeks applications for a full-time, Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Communication and Theatre, beginning in August of 2025.
This is a scholar / artist position that requires a commitment to teaching theatre / performance history and directing for our mainstage season in an undergraduate liberal arts and sciences context.
With primary teaching responsibilities in theatre / performance history, and an active research agenda in theatre studies and / or performance studies, a successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of teaching expertise, a passion for mentoring undergraduate students, and an active research plan.
Faculty are expected to contribute to teaching the First-Year Experience and other courses in Pathways, the University’s interdisciplinary general education program.
There are many opportunities for Trinity faculty to be engaged in experiential learning, interdisciplinary teaching and research, and faculty-led study abroad programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teaching : Teaching responsibilities will include the department’s History of Theatre sequence, Play Structure and Analysis, and classes in the candidate’s area of interest that complement the departmental curriculum, as well as a commitment to participate in and make a contribution to Trinity's Pathways curriculum.
- Teaching load is typically 3-2 courses per year. One course release is given for directing for the Trinity Theatre Mainstage Season.
- Directing : Direct regularly as part of the Trinity Theatre Mainstage Season.
- Research : Consistent and productive scholarly activity, including attendance at professional meetings, participation in professional organizations, presentations of papers at academic conferences, and publication of research.
- An ongoing portfolio of creative activity is encouraged.
- Service : Advising majors, service to the department, the university, the profession, and the community.
APPOINTMENT DETAILS
This is a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Theatre position beginning August 2025. The salary will be competitive.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
Required : PhD or DFAin Theatre, Drama, or Performance Studies with degree in hand or plan to complete program’s PhD or DFA degree requirements by August 2025.
EXPERIENCE
Required :
- Graduate study and expertise in theatre / performance history
- Research / scholarship expertise in theatre studies and / or performance studies
- Directing experience at the university or professional level
Preferred : Candidates should have a demonstrated record of teaching excellence, a passion for mentoring undergraduates, and an active research agenda.
