Responsibilities :
- Performs computerized tomography of the head, neck, spine, chest, and body, with and without the use of contrast materials.
- Schedules exams to optimize scanner times while maintaining flexibility for emergency cases.
- Confers with radiologists to determine requirements of non-standard exams.
- Performs all procedures related to general and complex CT exams.
- Prepares and administers contrast materials with a thorough understanding of their usage.
- Practices radiation safety to reduce exposure to patients, staff, and self.
- Maintains CT schedule and workflow of new orders.
- Explains exams to patients and obtains informed consent.
- Responsible for stocking and inventory of all CT supplies.
- Available for irregular hour emergency scans on standby.
- Continually reviews new developments in computerized tomography.
Basic Requirements :
- United States Citizenship.
- English Language Proficiency.
- Certification : Must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R).
Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT).
- Education : Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or other recognized accrediting agencies.
- Credentialing Standards : Must meet credentialing standards as described in Public Law 97-35.
- Loss of Credential : Must maintain required certification to remain in the occupation.
Grade Determinations :
Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist, GS-9 :
- At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, GS-8, demonstrating clinical competencies.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) including ability to balance patient and staff needs, assess contraindications, and knowledge of physical assessment and basic life support practices.
Physical Requirements : Heavy lifting, moderate carrying, reaching above shoulder, walking, standing, and repeated bending.
