Overview

The Facilities Assistant at LifeLong Medical Care is responsible for carrying out a range of manual tasks under the guidance of the Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor.

These tasks include maintenance and cleaning of buildings and grounds, minor equipment repairs, plumbing, carpentry, transportation of materials, setting up office furniture, and monitoring off-site storage.

This is a full time, 40 hours / week, benefits eligible position.

LifeLong Medical Care is a large, multi-site, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with a rich history of providing innovative healthcare and social services to a wonderfully diverse patient community.

Benefits

Responsibilities

The Facility Assistant I position is the starting point for individuals looking to gain experience in the field. Initially, employees will work closely with supervision to perform routine tasks while receiving on-the-job training.

As they gain more experience, they will have the opportunity to work more independently within set guidelines. This position can lead to advancement to Facility Assistant II or III for those who demonstrate proficiency and meet the qualifications for higher-level positions.

The Facility Assistant II position is considered to be at a mid-level. Employees in this role are expected to perform a wide range of duties under general supervision.

The position is defined by having clear guidelines to follow and access to supervision in more complex situations. Employees are required to have a good understanding of operations and procedures, and the capability to independently complete daily tasks as directed and under normal circumstances.

The Facility Assistant III position is at an experienced level and involves performing a wide range of duties independently under general supervision.

Employees in this role must have a strong understanding of operations and procedures, and be able to complete day-to-day tasks as directed, while also being capable of training others.

The employee will have a defined knowledge of skills not learned on the job in a brief period of time. Assignments require the use of independent judgement and initiative.

Lead direction of others is not a regular part of the job. This position serves as a working lead and may be responsible for specific areas such as fleet coordination, building security and safety, or maintenance liaison for facilities where LifeLong's ancillary services are housed (i.

e. supportive housing, respite, or street medicine).

Independently performs a variety of maintenance, repair, and renovation tasks under general supervision.

  • Tasks may include installing faucets, soldering pipes, clearing drains, electrical work, door hardware installation, wall framing, painting, and assisting with mechanical and electrical system maintenance.
  • Analyzes and troubleshoots issues to make necessary repairs.
  • Ensures the safety of occupants by following Cal / OSHA and OSHA standards.
  • Conducts minor maintenance tasks and scheduled preventive maintenance checks.
  • Handles yard and parking area cleanups on a regular basis.
  • Delivers office supplies, equipment, furniture, and mail as required.
  • Assembles, maintains, and repairs equipment and furniture.
  • Manages storage retrieval and delivery, including monitoring off-site storage facilities.
  • Operates and maintains equipment and hand tools for building maintenance.
  • Maintains logs, coordinates work requests, and provides office support.
  • Drives a vehicle to transport supplies, equipment, or furniture.
  • Provides custodial services as needed in various LifeLong facilities.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends.
  • Carries out special projects as assigned by Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment following manufacture and safety guidelines.
  • Strong organizational, administrative and problem-solving skills, and ability to be flexible and adaptive to change.
  • Ability to seek direction / approval from on essential matters, yet work independently with little onsite supervision, using professional judgment and diplomacy.
  • Work in a team-oriented environment with a number of professionals with different work styles and support needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills and ability to effectively work with people from diverse backgrounds and be culturally sensitive.
  • Conduct oneself in internal and external settings in a way that reflects positively on LifeLong Medical Care as an organization of professional, confident and sensitive staff.
  • Ability to see how one's work intersects with that of other departments of LifeLong Medical Care and that of other partner organizations.
  • Make appropriate use of knowledge / expertise / connections of other staff.
  • Be creative and mature with a "can do", proactive attitude and an ability to continuously "scan" the environment, identifying and taking advantage of opportunities for improvement.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge and hands on experience in general facilities maintenance and repair
  • Access to reliable transportation (preferably a work truck) and a current and valid California Driver's license with insurance.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in written.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Knowledge of methods, practices and tools and equipment typically used in the cleaning and maintenance of office buildings and grounds.
