You will :
- Proactively monitor security systems and respond to security alerts to protect the users and assets of South Carolina’s flagship university
- Triage security events by analyzing & enriching data & identifying threats
- Collaborate with cyber security gurus using NIST & SANS to pivot our security posture
- Support and mentor motivated and inspired students in the Security Operations Center (SOC)
- Create records of security incidents and documentation while leveraging development and engineering tools such as Markdown and Git

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience :
Requires a bachelor’s degree and 1 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and / or experience.
Preferred Qualifications :
Experience in systems administration, networking, or programming. Experiences with the use of modern systems administration principles such as orchestration, code repositories, and DevOps.
Applicable entry level information security certifications such as GSEC or Security+.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Understanding of operating systems to include Microsoft Windows, MacOS, and Linux.
Understanding of networking protocols and concepts such as routing, switching, and TCP / IP. Baseline knowledge of information security concepts such as the incident response process, forensics, and intrusion detection.
Job Duty :
Security Event Operations : Serve as entry point for security incidents on a rotating basis. Triage events and work incidents through to either escalation or completion.
Observe and record efficacy of detection and prevention while on operational duty to create inputs for SRE staff. Assist with student workers in the Security Operations Center as needed.
