At Houston Methodist the Medical LaboratoryTechnician position is responsible for performing both routine andcomplex analyses which necessitates knowledge of laboratorytechniques principles and equipment and their interrelationship.
This position exercises good judgment by using critical thinkingskills and deals with issue resolution concerning the daytodaytechnical operation of the laboratory.
The Medical LaboratoryTechnician also ensures that specimens are accessioned andprocessed expeditiously in order to deliver quality laboratoryresults in an effective and costefficientmanner.

- Performsqualitative and quantitative tests and examination using variousanalyzers and / or manualmethods.
- Organizesworkload and sets priorities. Utilizes all available work time byassisting others and performing additionaltasks.
- Meets turnaroundtime expectations as defined bymanagement.
QUALITY / SAFETYESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
- Demonstrates thesix elements of competency for test systems used to generatepatient test results in all areas assigned towork.
- Recognizesinvestigates and helps resolve test discrepancies. When problemsarise takes appropriate action to investigate and address andnotifies management and the medical director forfollowup.
- Performsinstrument calibrations validations quality control testingmaintenance and functionchecks.
FINANCE ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
- Adjusts workschedule to accommodate departmental / organizational needs.Appropriately utilizes the time recordingsystem.
- Uses resourcesefficiently; does not waste supplies. Restocks section inventorylevels asneeded.

- Seeksopportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies witha focus on continualdevelopment.
- Reviews andutilizes Standard Operating Procedure and offers suggestions forimprovement.
